Bathroom panelling

Where can I buy wood effect panelling for a bathroom? I don't want real wood, I want it to be waterproof. Is this possible? Is it possible to paint it?

      You can get green mdf ( I think it's for damp rooms) which is undercoated white in T and G style from some builders merchants, though I know Travis Perkins don't stock it. I got mine from John A Stephenson in Nottingham. They didn't keep it in stock but ordered it in.

      I’m sure it would be suitable next to a bath as long as you finish it using the appropriate paint.


      You dont see it it that often these days but personally I like panelling in a bathroom.

      Don't you? Oh dear! I have 3 bathrooms to design and wanted to go a bit more traditional in the family bathroom. Ideally with darker colours. But can't get a design I like with tiles hence the panelling idea.

      I love panelling - cheaper and prettier than tiles! Try B &Q - they also sell specialist paint for a variety of surfaces and an colour match anything with their Valspar paints

      As long as you use a bathroom paint (you can get ones that helps against moister, damp etc) you should be fine with the panelling around the room.

      We have panelled our bathroom, been on about 5 years now. We painted it in Farrow and ball oil based paint in Plummet( think they only do water based now - but Little Green still do oil based I think?)
      We think it is lovely and so does anyone who sees it. The panelling is all round except when it comes to the shower cabinet were we have put wallboards, no grouting anywhere. It's certainly a different look to tiles, room feels warm and cosy. I would say do it, you won't regret it.

      Hi, I love panelling in all its forms. Wonderful in period homes especially. I would try builders merchants like Jewson etc and DIY stores. Paint it in eggshell or satinwood paint for extra durability.

      Found a couple of suppliers online and I saw Howdens also sell it.

      We use moisture proof MDF pre primed all round on all projects it’s fine for bathrooms.

      We have it in our guest room en-suite with a bath, we've had no problems thus far.

      When I said you don’t see paneling that often these days, I meant in new designs (but I could be wrong of course).

      It’s not particularly trendy perhaps, which I regard as a good thing!

      It‘s classic as opposed to a fad.

      Hi Jen. Mine is panelled floor to ceiling albeit in a different style. The moisture resistant MDF is just that, its MR and it's splash proof but you couldn't have water constantly running against it as it's still prone to swelling etc as far as I'm aware. Mine is actually fine around around the bath, despite me constantly dropping the shower head and spraying the walls, although I have had a couple of expansion gaps appear elsewhere tbh. I opted for F&B water based so don't know if LG oil would have been better or it could just have been my painting!

      To panel our dining/breakfast room, we used mdf paneling from Homebase. Painted it with undercoat and Johnstones Eggshell. £11.50 each

      We have had painted t and g in our en suite for 3 years - painted with Laura Ashley eau de nil- with no problems. We do, however, only use the shower fitment for rinsing hair occasionally, and bath after use, as we have a separate shower. I, too, wanted a softer look than tiles.
