Fabricators & Stone Experts: what kind of stone is this?

Found this remnant as a possibility for our master bath remodel... but the fabricator wasn't sure what it was. He said it is natural stone and said it was a mix of marble and granite? I've never heard of that. Is it quartzite? I can't tell. I'm on the fence. I love natural stone but not sure this will give me that soft Carrara look that I love. May be too dark. Thoughts??? Thanks!

    I think it’s marble too. Maybe one of the Damasco marbles. There’s Blue Damasco, Damasco White, and just Damasco. Lovely, but not for high-traffic areas, as it will etch. If you are comfortable with etching—and many people are—go for it.

    I agree that it looks like marble.

    Reminds me a bit of Fantasy Brown, which is marble that may or may not have occasional areas of quartz in it, depending on the particular slab.
