Help with exterior cladding two storey home with river frontage

We are in the early stages of design of a new two storey dwelling and are close with floor plan layout but struggling with the exterior especially different cladding materials/colours. House will be built with river views to the rear of house, does anyone have any ideas/photos of two storey homes with river views?

Hi there, have you considered faux stone cladding? How about the Cottage look.

This material is lightweight, easy to handle and install too. It is an alternative cladding solution to the same old weatherboard cladding.

Your designer should be able to suggest some ideas, but a lot will depend on your budget, and the slope of the land. If the rear of the house is very elevated to make the most of the views, you would be better off with lightweight construction that can be maintained easily from your balconies, rather than masonry construction, which can get expensive if you are a long way above the natural ground level.

So you need to consider your budget, the height of the building, the surrounding environment (urban or rural), how it looks from the river, the orientation, your climate, and how close the new building is above the flood level.

Thanks for reply. Land is relatively flat with gentle slope towards river so not a great height above ground level. Our preferred exterior materials are 'old red' bricks, concrete (or concrete look), timber (or timber look) and maybe some form of metal cladding (as feature in black) but having trouble getting the balance right of which material and how much of each to use. I guess we are going for an Industrial look with the design and seems to be hard to find comparable designs.

It sounds like you are using lots of materials for an elevation which will probably have a lot of glass to make the most of the view. You don't want it to seem too busy, and often simpler is better, with the logic of the structure informing use of the cladding materials. If you posted your designer's elevation then it would be possible to make some constructive comments.

    Best of luck,

Would be helpful if you could provide details of the structure, layout and also any contextual info/photos
