    There are a lot of different factors that come into play here. For instance what is your layout? An L-shape, U-shape or galley? Also, will you have seating at your island and if so, how many people do you want to seat there? For the basics, remember these dimensions - Base cabinets are usually 24" deep, add 1" - 1 1/2" for countertop overhang, walkways should be at least 36" wide but 42" is even better, and you need 24" length per seat you want at your island. Also, know your appliance depths - stoves and refrigerators can vary and range from counterdepth (25"-26") up to 36" deep with the handles. Your goal is to be able to move comfortably around your kitchen and open any appliances or cabinet doors and drawers without interfering in your workspace and impeding traffic around you if possible.
