Bonsai Blue Jacaranda

Realty1Josh
hace 6 años

So just picked up a 3 FT bonsai blue jacaranda from Lowe's. Thinking about placing it on a west facing wall in another couple of weeks here. Any experience with the dwarf versions of the jacaranda?

Curious about the hardiness of the plant and the height. Tag says 10-12 FT tall but not sure how it will do here in phx. What about its first winter?

thanks

Hard to say just how large it will get. They are calling them bonsai as a sales tactic. It's just a multi trunked Jacaranda most likely in a smaller pot than what one would typically buy a tree in (15 gallon) and up. I could possibly see a western wall causing some damage from reflected heat but Jacaranda do take full sun here very well. It is not cold hardy. If we are going to get frost or freezing protect it with frost cloth. Watering the night before a freeze or prolonged period of cold will help. Using a sprayer to spray liquid kelp will thicken the cell walls and make it more cold hardy. If you are in Phoenix you should be fine. Good luck and remember to mulch mulch mulch. A lot of mulch will help retain moisture, keep the soil more cool in the summer and feed the tree as it breaks down.
