Need help in kitchen

We have Honey Oak Cabinets, Silver Pearl Granite Counter Tops & Stainless Steel appliances. We are so over the oak cabinets and we want to replace the Pergo Presto Laminate floors with hard wood. We really can't afford to replace the cabinets and the granite is only about 14 months old so replacing them is out of the question. When talking to companies that refinish cabinets all they want to do is replace the doors and reface the box frames. Estimate is $8,000.00 I was hopeful that a professional painter could paint the doors and frames for a reasonable price. The people I have spoken to keep saying the grain would be very obvious and nobody seems to want to paint the cabinets white, off white, actually any color. Cabinets are decent quality with dove tail joinery and maple drawers. If I can't have the cabinets painted, what color floor would work given the current color scheme. The ceilings are cathedral with very dark beams. I need help....

Just have someone paint the base cabinets and change out the doors, and hardware. Is your granite black? Or just keep cabinets, it's a time consuming, because one has to take off doors, take hinges and knobs/handles off, sand and prime the cabinets and doors. Easiest to keep base cabinets, and change out doors, or stain them darker,(brown mahogany or a greige-ceruse finish), either way it's the labor intensive, but the results are worth it.. Do all the labor yourselves until paint or stain process, and let the experts do that part, then let them re-install, or do it yourself...By the way just noticed the backsplash. What colors are they, you can pick color from that, which will complement the Granite and lighten the whole effect of the kitchen, for a transitional look.

There are a few roads you can take just by looking at this picture I can tell that your doors have no shine at all. So a few things you can do yourself and this may help clear things up in your head. Take down one door from the overhead hood and sand it (in the flat center) with 80 grit 3x made by Norton. Sand it down until you get to the wood (on half of it.) Next take a ruler and draw 3 squares half of one side 2 on the other side then buy some 400 grit sandpaper and sand down the other side that still has stain on it. Please do this out side and try to give yourself some time and wear gloves. After your done give the side that has stain a skim coat of clear zar ultra max this will give you a shine you do not have right now (if you do it just right) lights in the room will shine off you doors. In the other two squares paint different colored paint until you find the right one for you. Paint right an top of one another if you must. I tell people this all the time but go to your local paint shop and buy 4 samples to figure out what work and what does not even if you want a change sometime you just need shine and a soft feel to the touch to the hand that's what zar and 400 grit sand paper can give you if you do it right. Put thought into it and a little effort in because a kitchen is something your going to look at the rest of your life. Take it in you kitchen and look at it in the your kitchen.
If your problem is the light to the dark and you want to go with a somewhat matching dark color and paint the cabinets darker or lighter go to home depot or lowes and but a 2ft sq. of drywall and go with colors you like and prop it in front of your cabinets this helps with putting your mind in the color before you ever put it on anything. paint the whole thing one solid color. It sounds a bit crazy but this really helps. Look harder for painters ask friends and the people in your neighborhood because someone will know a painter looking for work. If that does not work go your a local bar and ask the bar keep. You'll end up with 4 referrals in a day:)

Have a good lighting, either by having windows that constantly during the day will receive light or by having appropriate lamps. Remember that you will need a good ventilation system.
