Kitchen Reno into Dining Room

Hello, this is our kitchen and dining room. I'm thinking of ripping out the kitchen and redoing and also removing the wall through to the dining room and having an island bench.
The dining room is a large space.
What else can you suggest we can do in there?
I want it to be a family space as I have small children and want to see them while I cook.

    Hi Liz F, I agree with MB Design & Drafting regarding squaring off the doorways. You'd need to consider that you have a lot of main thoroughfares, being your arch ways, so you are limited with what you can do with the existing floor plan. Whilst you have a builder out to look at squaring off your arch ways I would discuss with them the possibility of removing the wall between your dining and lounge room. This will allow you a more flexible and modern floor plan that will enable you to have an open plan layout where you can see your kids, the tv and all activity whilst in the kitchen.

    Below are photos of my Abbotsford project which was similar to your project in floor plan, where the kitchen was completely enclosed as well as the lounge room. Three walls had to come down to open up this space completely, therefore I recommend the same for you.

      Also, does anyone know how hard it is to change arches back to normal square doorways?

      Not to bad actually to remove arches and it was on 'The Renovation King' (Barry De Bois) the other night!

      Removing the wall could be an issue so have a builder check it out as it may be load bearing and need a bearer or two to support the over head structure.

      Ripping out the wall (if it is not load bearing) will create a completely different space which will allow a breakfast bar / centre island etc. Call in a builder to get the wall structure checked then call in the kitchen companies. I can see this new space looking amazing.

      Oh and don't forget to get rid of that carpet, pray the lovely floor boards continue under the carpet and if not check to see where you can get matching floor boards perhaps under the floor of another room that may be carpeted e.g. a bedroom or similar. The floor in a large space must flow throughout the entire space.
