Has anyone used Compac Stone-Unique Calacatta Quartz?

ksnakashima
hace 7 años

I'm looking for a quartz alternative for Calacatta and I'm considering this option.

I haven't seen many photos of it-but the photos on the website make it look very realistic.

Has anyone used it for their counters? Would you recommend it/have photos to share?

We used Compac for our new kitchen. WORST product I ever used in a kitchen. Buyer beware - this is soft and chips easily more than any other product I ever had in a kitchen. Manufacturer will NOT stand behind the product and blames the customer. I have granite in my country home since 1990 and not a single chip for over a decade. AVOID!!!!!

Unfortunately we are also very unimprsssed with our Compac counters. We noticed small white marks upon installation (resin pooling??) and other unattractive marks. Not to mention, I’m anal about wiping up water etc and I’ve already noticed some water spots. Its been 2 months. Not okay!!

    Hi there,

We have installed over 50 Compac Unique Calacatta quartz worktops for residential and commercial projects and haven't encountered a single issue with the material.

In our experience, it is a stunning product, and one of the best Calacatta inspired quartz products in the market.

We have been trading with Compac, The Surfaces Company, for over 12 years. Whenever there was a problem with any of their products ( I can't remember the last time we encountered an issue), they have been very good with all our clients by providing quick solutions.

Come to my home, I will show you how poor quality some of their products are, Neither the manufacturer or installer back up the warranty and blame you for the defects. The product we have chips easily. I have granite from the 1990s in my country home and not a single chip. I don't have children and barely cook. Compac, in my opinion, is a soft product that is prone to chipping around high use areas when compared to other products I have had in my home. As for me, I will NEVER buy it again. If the slab I have is defective, they should have immediately just replaced it. NEVER AGAIN.

    Hi S B,

Unluckily, the warranty offered by Compac (and all of the quartz brands in the market) doesn't cover accidental impact.

It is similar to the warranty provided by mobile phone manufacturers: it doesn't cover repairing the screen if the handset is accidentally dropped or hit by an element.

Chipping usually occurs around the edges, the sink and dishwasher areas (taking pots in and out abruptly). We see this with quartz, marble and granite, but it is not an extremely common occurrence.

We have installed thousands of Compac quartz surfaces over the years and can testify about the high quality of its materials.

Here are ten faultless worktop photos of different Compac quartz surfaces from happy installation experiences in London and the South of England.

The best way to raise a claim for your stone worktop is to contact the company that supplied it, so they can inspect it and assess whether it is justifiable.

Should you not succeed with the result of your claim, we recommend hiring a stone specialist to repair the chips, making them almost invisible in many cases.

    I hope this helps.

I appreciate your input. But I have countertops of granite in my country home from the 1990s heavily used over the years by families with children. There is not a chip anywhere on any edge. But with my Compac product it easily chips with the slightest contact. After 1 year it looks like 30 years of abuse. I must be "extremely" accident prone in a city kitchen I rarely use with only 2 adults living there. I am sorry, but my experience and many years of living in various homes, apartments with various types of countertops, leads me to the conclusion that this product is like "soap stone". And the company does not stand by its products. I never in my entire life had such a soft, chip prone countertop. It should serve as a warning to others. The only other concept is that it was defective slab, and if so, then the company should stand behind the product. Until that happens, I remain an unsatisfied customer, just trying to warn others of the perils of Compac.

my wife loves the Compac quartz and we are about to pull the trigger, kinda glad to come across this thread. I am going to pause and check out the other brand since I don't want to drop 20k on a counter top and regret later.

SB, can you share how did those chip occur? did you bump it with a metal pot or ceramic bowl that caused the chip? my last quartz lasted 10 years with a single chip that was our mistake of dropping something heavy on the edge.

  • S B
    hace 2 años

Hi, I have had many, many types of countertops over the years. This material is very, very soft. It was installed in a NY condo with only two adults who rarely cook. We loved the look, but quickly learned looks are deceiving. With just light bumps with any bowl, dish the material chips. The more you clean a chipped area, the bigger the area gets. I have granite in my country home which was installed in the 1990s and used hard by guests and kids. There is not one single chip anywhere. Working with Compac customer service is useless. Of course they blamed me for the "very numerous" chips. They would not stand by a warranty and simply replace it. Someone called me to insist they would follow up - that was over a month ago now. If it were me, I would definitely go with another product with more proven durability.

@COMPAC since a lot the refusal of warranty claim is on installation error, what can we do (using certified installer) that we can use so you can't blame it on installation if we file for claim about chip, crack or dot?

@home Hello! First of all, thank you very much for your message. We are happy to read that your wife likes our materials, so thank you very much for putting your trust in COMPAC. Regarding your question, the first thing to do is to register your warranty with us. The materials we use at COMPAC have a resistance value of more than 7 on the MOHS hardness scale out of a total value of 10. This means that the materials we use guarantee scratch resistance on our surfaces in our designs, giving the product lasting durability. Our guarantee always covers manufacturing defects and, at COMPAC, we resolve any queries our customers may have regarding the material, installation, or the correct use of our surfaces. To find out more about our warranty, you can access this link on our website: https://bit.ly/3LMwF7N. You can always leave us a private message sending us your city, a phone number, and an email so we can assist you personally. Thank you in advance. Best regards

@Eric R, could you please let me know if you're still happy with your Fondovalle one year later? I'm about to commit to 5 slabs of 12mm honed Fondovalle Infinito 2.0 Calacatta Gold for my kitchen. It's so beautiful! But I couldn't find any reviews on internet. How is it holding up for you? Any chipping or other problems? Are you in SF Bay Area by the chance and can recommend your fabricator? Thank you in advance!

  • Eric R

Yes. No chipping. Only thing is that I wouldn’t say it’s as non-porous as they advertise. If you spill something clean it up quickly. Otherwise it’ll take some scrubbing with a magic eraser. I would buy it again.

From this thread, I had decided against this countertop. In case others are looking for an alternative looking Calcutta looking quartz - MSI Laza. This one has bookmatched slabs and I used for a waterfall island as well. I’m very happy with this and hopefully this will help others!!

I wish I had come across this post sooner. I have the Compac Unique calacatta installed and noticed black spot clusters on the bench top. It is still brand new and never been used. The response from the supplier is that the spots are there to achieve a more natural look. Definitely go with another product with the price they are charging.

Wow, this thread is so unfortunate. I thought I had finally found the quartz I've been looking for. Anyone have suggestions for a similar look? I'm really struggling to find something that is a soft grey and looks natural (not too bold or stripey). Anyone use White Aurora by Vedara or Tiber by Santa Margherita?

I ended up getting this quartz because my wife loved the stone pattern too much. We took the risk and so far it is fine after 1 years. So if you don’t abuse it, the stone seems to be holding up ok

Hi Emily L , I don't know much about Vadara quartz, and it may be a quartz import that is re-branded by the company U.S. Surfaces. Even though we have not yet installed the Tiber quartz, we have been working with Santa Margherita products for almost two decades. Santa Margherita is an Italian surface manufacturer that started producing engineered marble slabs such as terrazzo in the 60's and produces its own slabs in Verona, Italy.
