BiFolding doors, internal blind yay or nay

Hi,

Planning on putting bifolding doors in the kitchen, saw last month doors with blinds fitted between the panes of glass, the blinds were open/closed by an external magnet. Does this have any detrimental effect on the insulation properties of the double glazing. We will be having 5 panels, anybody idea of the cost. Chris

    My opinion is that integral blinds can look a bit 'officey', a nightmare if anything should go wrong, and generally an unnecessary expense. I'd raise the question regarding thermal properties with the supplier.

    If you are having further building work, aside from just the door in installation, it should be possible to incorporate a detail at the head of the doors to conceal a standard blind, which would be considerably cheaper and a neater solution.

    Just had blinds fitted and enquired about the cost of internal blinds - for a 2x1m panel it was approx. £300. We decided not to bother due to additional cost and we also felt that the blinds/open/rods would distract from the look. Our garden is slightly overlooked so 2 trellis panel will be added to take care of that.

    If you haven't already purchased the doors, an option you could consider is the Centor Integrated Folding Door. It's available in a range of configurations – a 5 panel option is available.

    Designed for homes, you can choose a built-in blind and/or insect screen, both of which are fully serviceable. Regarding thermal properties, the use of an integrated Blackout blind can improve the U value by 0.2.
