If you were cast adrift on a desert island, with only a single socket to use for eatery purposes, which one could you not live without, toaster or microwave?

It's a debate that has raged in our office today and we'd like to know what you think!

    Unless this is some bizarre island where bread grows on trees, what possible use would a toaster be? (actually it would make a good fire lighter now that I think about it).

      It's a no brainer - a microwave is great for porridge and healthy veg!

      I can't do without a microwave. when we book holiday self catering accom I always check for a microwave - how else can I warm soup, porridges etc.

      Toaster! I haven't had a microwave for the last 3 years and haven't missed it at all. You can't make decent toast in a microwave!

      Has to be a microwave as it cooks anything other than toast, whereas a toaster can ONLY cook, well - toast!

      Nice idea for a debate :-) I was going to pick toaster until I read the comment from Seat Dreams Upholstery about bread!! So have now decided to go with the microwave as its a lot more versatile and you can make many dishes in it :-)

      Hello Anthony Edwards Kitchens,

      Oh what fun! I also enjoyed Seat Dreams response... Now lets see.. The toaster could burn whatever is put into it and possibly send a smoke S.O.S (as they do) (but not so gr8 if you're in a two bed semi in basingstoke) and if you then found despite your endeavours, you were cast away for a year and a day (Sans football) and could take it no more.. You could then if you were greedy and had the microwave too make a *%#*@%! This may send a bigger S.O.S and possibly make all the difference in the world... : ))
