Bringing This Home Into The Modern Era!
This whole house renovation included main and upper floors, garage conversion and a complete exterior facelift. The home owners wanted complete functionality and durability to accommodate their busy life with their three children and two large dogs. They also wanted to bring the 1960’s home into the modern era with unique materials and clean lines.
EXTERIOR & GARAGE:
The exterior facelift include a new roof, acrylic stucco, manganese-iron brick, cherry longboard (aluminum) and stained wood columns. All of the windows and doors were replaced with energy efficient products. The original garage was converted into a large practical mudroom with storage cabinets to match the charcoal espresso cabinetry in the kitchen. A custom floating bench with storage and handy hooks were also part of the organization plan. A powder room, laundry room and TV room for the kids was also accommodated in the old garage.
INTERIOR:
To set the stage on the main floor, the walls between the kitchen, living and dining room were removed. A full island was added along with an easily accessible but out-of-the-way bar area. Two windows were relocated to be more centered with the new cooktop and allow natural light to pour in. This created a lack of upper cabinets and reduced storage so a 6’ pantry was included to compensate. Shaker style kitchen cabinets are a combination of off white contrasted with the charcoal espresso for a dramatic effect. Bright angular Cambria Torquay counters and the definitive subway tile backsplash maintain the clean lines and tied it all together. The modern under
mount kitchen sink, wall oven and the convenient serving counter add to the new contemporary style of the home. A hand scraped hickory hardwood was chosen for the flooring because it is both durable and beautiful. It also provides a solid
foundation for the Mini Ledgestone gas burning fireplace on the feature wall.
