engineered hardwood floors are much more dimensionally stable, generally making them a far better choice for installation over concrete. Additionally, solid Floors over concrete require very expensive adhesives, whereas an engineered floor can often be floated. Be sure your installer conducts proper site inspection and moisture readings before you make your purchase. It is important that your installer be involved in the process since they will assume liability for incorrect installation or acclamation/moisture problems. You may also consider Luxury Vinyl plank as an alternative.

You almost universally want to avoid solid wood over concrete. There are glue-down solutions, and moisture barrier epoxies, but generally speaking engineered is a much safer, more cost effective solution. It was specifically designed to handle higher moisture rates and below-grade subfloors.

With that said, even engineered wood can move with enough moisture exposure. This varies widely by brand, species, and specification, but it is not a bulletproof solution. If you want a solution that looks like wood, but is 100% waterproof, consider vinyl plank. Here are some examples of Modin Vinyl Plank, which comes in a 9" x 60" plank and has a 40 mil wear-layer:

    Have you considered
doing a decorative concrete overlay on your floors instead? Stamped concrete,
commonly referred to as patterned concrete or imprinted concrete, is designed
to resemble brick, slate, stone, tile, and even hardwood plank floors – all for
a fraction of the cost of the real thing. You can learn more here http://www.concretecraft.com/StampedConcrete/.
