we are rebuilding our old deck and want to protect the joists from decay. Do any of you recommend a product called "joist jackets" or something similar? Do you cut roofing tar paper into strips and secure it to the tops of the joists? another alternative might be sealing the joist tops with some sort of an epoxy or waterproof glue - letting it dry and then securing the deck boards. Our deck is 8' off the ground, so we planned to use regular fir/hemlock 2x10's for the joists and painting them with our house paint so they look good from the bottom. (we don't trust the new ACQ treated boards and their interaction with galvanized joist hangers!) Any suggestions welcomed! thanks, diane
