Lighting Fireplace w/Post & Beam ceiling??

I'm trying to light a wide fireplace in a 200 year old house. I need 3 bulbs to do it. The ceiling has exposed beams that run perpindicular (not parallel)to the fireplace. Between the dark wood beams there is white plaster with about 3" of void between the ceiling and the 2nd floor.

There is really no room in the ceiling for even the shallowest recessed lights. Has anyone ever build a box for a recessed light, so part of it lives in the ceiling, and the protruding (bulb) part is housed in a 5x5x5 inch box mounted alongside the beam?

This is the only placement I can think of, unless someone makes a primitive looking single tracklight fixture. We do have tin fixtures in the room.

thanks

Have you considered using a trough with a linear light (such as an eW PowerCore) instead? Or cove lighting - the light is reflected off the ceiling.

Another alternative would be the glimpse LED.

At 2 1/2" any of these will fit.

I checked out the Glimpse LED, but would like it to be more directional. The Twicebright looks grat, but when I re-measured, I found I have only 2 inches between the ceiling plaster and the 2nd floor.

I thought maybe someone made a really unobtrusive wide angle light, or I could make a square box housing to conceal the part of the Twicebright that fit into the ceiling.
