Did this come pre-stained or with their stain kit color options? This

    Hey there... The details under the 4 windows... was that added extra by you guys, or did that come with the door?

      This door was stained with the gel stain kit that came from the manufacturer (Therma Tru). We have, however, stained several more of these doors with stain products from Sherwin Williams.

      Thanks so much for the quick reply. We are planning to order this door and the pre-stain colors from the factory just don't seem dark enough. Glad to see a finished product that was stained with the kit. Or even another brand.

      Try going with an "Espresso" or "Dark Walnut" stain. The fiberglass doors (only hacks and production builders still use steel doors!) give you the ability to play with the darkness of the stain. In other words, you can apply it and gently wipe it off to lighten the hue.

      How many coats of the stain did you use? This is the exit color I want for this door

      The fiberglass doors only take one coat of stain. The hue/darkness is achieved by how long you leave the stain on and how aggressively you wipe if off.

      Do you know if it was the "English Walnut" or "Walnut" stain from Therma Tru?

      To shandi02: Unfortunately, I can't remember which walnut shade we went with as we did this house nearly six years ago.

      To Kelly Jaremco: The detail underneath the windows is called a "Dentil block" and it is available from the manufacturer. If ordered with the dentil block, it will come already installed on the door.
