I see what you mean in terms of the slate / paneling combo, it looks really nice. I would only point out that in both photos here there are high ceilings, so while I think this could work in your center hallway (which I think does have a high ceiling?) I’m not sure the unpainted paneling works as well in the would-be dining room where the ceiling is lower. But I definitely love the slate-look floor.
