Sorry for posting a little late today -- I have been lots of productive stuff today and that has been especially good for my mental health goals!
Weight loss continues to be very slow this month. I am not concerned -- though I will talk to my dr to see if I should increase my dosage. I am shifting my focus to soups and baked meals which I am appreciating. Love the cozy fall vibe all around.
Weeks have been busy getting both home and office until control before the end of the year but I havent been feeling all that stressed despite the hours.
All in all, I think I am doing pretty well.
How are you doing?

I am a little low energy and achy today since we got both the C and flu boosters yesterday. I did Zumba step and weights yesterday in anticipation of feeling yucky today. I have to go for updated bloodwork this week, and I'm also meeting with HR and TIAA to talk retirement.
I"ll check in later this week. Need to get to bed soon.

Thanks @gsciencechick - that sounds like what I’ve read. I would keep her in the jack and jill guest rooms. She’s knd of a loner so she wouldn’t miss the other cats but she would miss us. Coincidentally it is my cat that looks like Panda.

It has already been in the 40s here and even though it is in the 60s now, the rain is making it especially cold. It is definitely time to be thinking of coats and jackets for many of us.
I woke up this morning and cleared out one whole closet. Every last thing except a nwt RL belt is gone! Granted it was a closet I hadnt touched since I started working from home in 2000 (mostly dressier work clothes) so it shouldnt be a surprise given how much weight I've lost. Still ... it was very freeing!
Now I have a whole closet! (oh my closets are not walk-ins. They are smallish -- I still have lots more to go!)
I think I am pretty much covered for fall and early winter now. I do need to get long sleeve tees (looks like ON may not be bringing back my fav plush tees this season) and a pair of loafers but otherwise I should have the basics covered.
I wont say I won't shop or buy anything else-- but whatever I purchase will enhance what remains. I am keeping an eye out for great fall and winter scarves ... a wide belt ... leather gloves ... things that will spark true joy!

Well, I got this one too. $35.

Two fall jackets for $70 total. I think I’m good!

If while looking at the re-sale sites, any of you see The Official Sarasota GTG Scarf in the beige/tan border and pink toile field, please let me know. The scarf was sold by J. McLaughlin. I think the style is “Sarita” and in that colorway the pattern is called “Giardino”. It is 70% cashmere and 30% silk.
I love the blue and white toile with the green border! I wish I had bought the other colorway too and now it is sold out. ☹️

Have induction, love it, would never go back to gas for a variety of reasons; safety, indoor air quality, ease of cleaning a glass surface vs grates, efficiency of resource, speed of response - probably more if I thought longer. Are you buying a cook top or a range? If a cooktop, I would get one that is glass to the edge and does not have a 'frame' for lack of a better word. If a range, get one with the easiest possible edges to clean. That is a regret with my range but never having had one before, it just never occured to me. Also, if a range, see where it vents. Induction ranges use a fan not just for the oven but also have a fan for the cooktop part to keep the mechanism cool. Mine vents oven and cooling fan to the front of the unit - another oops on my part - it should vent at the back from the top of the cooktop for the most capture by an exhaust fan.

As an aside, our generator does not run our induction cooktop or ovens should we lose power. So we bought a single stand alone plug in induction burner. Not only is it great for power outages, but it is great for buffets/picnics where you want to keep a pot of something hot. For those who might be induction-shy, it's a way to try it out without making the big commitment. (I was at a restaurant run shower one time and the chefs used the individual induction cooktops to make made-to-order omelets.)

I finally tackled the small walk-in closet on my side of the garage. Donated two 48Lx30Wx32H dog crates to the local cat rescue, and a pet ramp to another animal rescue. Took three boxes of paperwork to UPS for shredding. Unpacked seven boxes of wedding china. Rearranged what was left in the closet, so now you can actually walk inside. The china is now organized in the seating side of the island so easily accessible.

Even better news, DH agreed to go through at least one large storage closet upstairs!

“But the problem is when you take the advice of people who have had their appliances for 20 years and still work fine--well, that's because they were manufactured differently 20 years ago.”
This!!!

Thanks, friends!
I got another cortisone shot in my hip on Friday, and after some ouchiness late day yesterday, it feels pretty good today. I asked the dr if people just end up getting shots every 3 months and he said yes, some people basically get them like clockwork until eventually they become less and less effective and then they need hip replacement. Ugh! Not really what I wanted to hear!
Birthday weekend so of course I had lots of treats. Back to reality tomorrow. After all the recent travel, the scale has crept up…I really need to figure out how to eat better on vacation.

I really need to figure out how to eat better on vacation.
I think nearly everyone gains weight on vacation; I know i do. I would not beat yourself up and consider it entirely acceptable, much like we all spend too much on vacay too. Maybe have a few rules in place to limit it, and a rule for when you return.
IDK maybe, as an example have 2 vacay rules:
1. a drink or a dessert with a vacation meal but never both, or only at dinner or...
2. then, a week of Whole 30 or a week of tracking when you return.
I find these kinds of rules, decided on in advance, help me a lot.
Nothing onerous or punitive, just an MO that lets you enjoy without regret!

Keep those legs strong everyone - that will help keep you independent years down the road.
A year into a pretty consistent and rigorous program, I have concluded this is my primary reason to exercise. I don't think it does a great job for weight loss (and increasingly hear experts admit that) and I don't feel particularly sculpted (upper arms, I am lookin' at you).
It has greatly improved my sleep hygiene, and I am hoping it wil pay dividends in the future. And i even kinda like it.

Salem, Ma. Is lovely in October. Food was wondeful and lots of history and house tours too. I stayed at the Merchant, but there were loads of great hotels downtown to choose from.

I'm not so certain it would be an easy or inexpensive fix.

Just an FYI -
You need to be careful about whether it has a prostaglandin in the formula (most growth serums that work will have some type of prostaglandin in the ingredients - same for eyelash growth serums). Prostaglandins:
- can age your eyes - causes shrinking to orbital fat = the fat loss deepens the upper eye socket (sulcus) and creates a hollow, "skeletonized" look.
- causes loss of underlying support which leads to loose skin, upper eyelid drooping (ptosis), and more prominent blood vessels.
- triggers melanin production = causes hyperpigmentation of eye lid
- may cause a darkening of your iris (people who had blue eyes have had them turn to brown) + unlike the hyperpigmentation of the lids, this change appears to be permanent. You're less likely to have the serum run into your eyes if you're using an eyebrow growth serum (vs. a lash growth serum), however, people have still had some iris color changing issues.

I landed on this:

Isn't there an old expression about "bits and bobbles"?

Ruby for the win! "Bits and bobs" (sometimes phrased as "bits and bobbles") is a common English idiom that means a collection of small, miscellaneous, or unnamed items

Wouldn't you want the sofa facing the TV more.

A sculptural ceiling fixture could be a wonderful way to emphasize the vaulted ceiling and make the room feel more current. I would settle on the furniture and TV arrangement first, though, because that determines whether the fixture should follow the room’s architectural center or the center of the final seating area. Then map its position and drop, checking the view from every seat for glare or obstruction and making sure the light spreads comfortably through the room.
Since you loved the ornate Murano direction, I’m attaching CALLA as a quieter contemporary comparison. It is a sculptural pendant made in Italy by GREYGE, so I’m sharing it with that affiliation disclosed. The contrast may help clarify whether you want the ceiling fixture to feel decorative and jewel-like or cleaner and more architectural.

My kitchen is open to a seating area like yours. I find having the sofa with its back to the island/peninsula seating like in your current arrangement is not great for flow at get togethers or for conversations in the room. A layout like @Emily’s rendering is much more open with a better flow.

I will be heading to the store when I get home from yet another indulgent trip today, and will fill the fridge with lots of fruit and veggies. We order fish from a market that delivers, so that will arrive in a couple of days.
I am getting another cortisone shot in my hip. Blah blah blah. The last one worked for exactly 3 months. I did manage a 30 mile bike ride over the weekend (um, on an e-bike) but my hip was very unhappy about it.
Five days with friends wasn’t great for my hip, waistline, or liver, but great for the soul.
Nantucket after yesterday’s rain.

Mtn, what are your favorite jeans?

I’m somewhat concerned but not trying to eliminate plastic from my life. It seems like an exercise in futility and not something I want to be preoccupied with at my age. I think it would be a depressing endeavor. My neighbors are into it though and they’re my age.

I think what the great minds of the world need to do is, (1) continue to develop processes that completely break down plastics, some of the work with micro-organisms is interesting, (2) continue to develop fully biodegradable forms of plastic, and (3) when #2 can be scaled cost-effectively, pass laws that ban the use of non-biodegradable plastics with exceptions for situations when a viable biodegradable alternative is not available or not advisable.

My state (NJ) banned plastic shopping bags about 5 years ago. We all bring reusable bags to shop with in all stores, not just grocery stores.. It has really cut down the trash in our waters and fields and along fence lines. I always carry a reusable bag in a small pouch in my purse.
I do think that plastic shopping bags can be useful for many things but we don't need thousands of them.

The thing about goals, is just having them is a step, right? It gets you headed in the right direction.
Glad I met my 100 goal, as I am now down for the count for a bit! I got up to turn off the A/C and prompty fainted. I woke up when I hit the ground. Thankfully I am just bruised but it's pretty darn ouchy.
I will discuss with my Dr. but pretty sure it is due to my hypotension. I was lucky to never have high blood pressure even at my heaviest, and now at my lower weight I tend to have low blood pressure. Dr. says there is no need to treat but I should sit for a bit before I jump out of bed. I also may not have been hyrdating enough.

Glad you’re ok! Yes, get that checked out, just for peace of mind.

Darn, I just have these, and only two. They were my mother’s.
Pyrex developed Corningware in 1958. Both products were made by Pyrex at the time this piece was made, now they are two separate companies.
I have the Pyrex Spirograph casserole dish. It was a wedding gift in 1969. The green underplate went missing years ago. But the casserole is still in great condition as I hand wash only. It has been and still gets filled with my scalloped potatoes regularly. Not sure what it may be worth, but I don't want to sell it and my daughter gets it per my will. Pyrex Spirograph casserole
