For 17 years, these Virginia homeowners contemplated what to do with their problematic kitchen before hiring Jordan Design-Build Group to create a layout that would work better for them. They also wanted some help giving it a style that would be part modern rustic and part “granny chic,” homeowner Heather Phillips says. The new U-shaped layout improved the flow and increased the counter space. And the black, white, brass and wood material palette gave the couple the style they craved.

This Toronto family’s compact and casual alcove kitchen was bursting at the seams. Designer Arielle Mizrahi came up with an open layout that took over the adjacent dining room area. This created room for a large island with seating on two sides and a large kitchen table that seats six. It also gave the family enough room for extra appliances that help them keep kosher. The designer elevated the room’s style with elegant black, white, brass and glass finishes throughout.
