We work with you to create an aesthetic, functional, and affordable landscape. We have worked on hundreds of projects covering a broad spectrum of services, from one-time hourly consultations to full sets of plans, from small yard makeovers to large landscapes. We can help you through all the phases of your landscape, starting with the development of a vision and plan for your yard, then coordinating solicitation of bids from the skilled contractors who build for us, and finally overseeing the project to make sure it is built according to our creative vision.
Here at Cal Wild Landscape Design we are passionate about creating drought tolerant and California native gardens that are innovative and contemporary in style. We envision gardens that balance place, identity and lifestyles. From visions for an expansive rural site or a detailed design for a compact home site, we strive to connect people to their space through listening, observing and discovering. We thoughtfully work with what is available to us on your site, trying to improve upon rather than manipulate. Every project is different but all connect us with the environment. …..what does “garden” mean to you? About the designer: My name is Sophie and I have spent my life falling in love with the CA landscape. I am fortunate to now share my passion with the world through designing your gardens and landscapes. Ron Roper is a passionate landscape designer with over 35 years experience. His wife Sandy is part of the "magic" behind the scenes with her insightful input and ideas from a woman's perspective. We focus first on determining our clients primary objectives and establishing a budget to ensure we can meet those objectives. Only then can we begin to provide an effective service creating ideas for your project. Once we begin we are committed to persevere through the process until it FEELS RIGHT with each element & detail thoughtfully imagined before committing to construction. We turn dysfunctional, disconnected & tired spaces into meditative spaces. We want you to come home and admire your home from the minute you enter your driveway until you melt into the chaise lounge on the patio and feel like you have arrived at your own personal luxury retreat. We strive to create continuity between your home & your outdoor living spaces. We develop key focal points across the landscape to be enjoyed from inside as well as outside. And we do so while maintaining function and beauty. Ron's experience in the field as a landscape contractor provides a unique perspective as a designer. It provides the ability to see how something will be built while designing. Ron's goal is to guide the homeowners through the design process while honoring the desired budget; whether the project is to be D.I.Y. or contractor installed, phased over time or one step completion. Ron has been recognized and awarded nationally for his pool designs and has been a featured speaker for local landscape exposition events.

My intro into the world of landscape architecture started when my parents used a landscape architect to redesign our backyard when I was 12. I had no idea this was a profession, but the transformation in the backyard of their corner lot home was unbelievable. When I attended UC Davis I initially started in the world of Interior Design, as I had always been attracted to anything art and design related. After an intro course into Landscape Architecture my love for the redesign of outdoor spaces was renewed and I switched majors. I enjoy spending time outdoors; I love nature and the feeling of the earth beneath my feet. It became clear to me that this field was the perfect blend of both design and nature. I worked at landscape architecture firms in both the Sacramento and Napa areas designing parks, playgrounds, elementary, middle school and high school landscapes, high end residential, winery landscapes, small scale commercial and public plazas. After about 6 years of working in firms I started my family, studied and passed the licensing tests to become a landscape architect and then set off on my own in 2011 designing mostly residential front, back and side yards for medium and high end residential. I also have worked on some light commercial work. My favorite part of this profession and my loose philosophy, which I take to each job, is that what I do is a fine balance between function, aesthetics and place-making. It also incorporates communication, good listening skills, and the ability to visualize spaces in 3D. What I find most satisfying is listening to a client's needs and wants and sitting down and playing mad scientist as I brainstorm and sketch out ideas. I do not have an ego when it comes to my designs, the client is my customer and this is their space, not mine. I like to include them as much as possible along the process. I have found the customer becomes just as excited about the design as I do when they feel they have had a hand in each step as it progresses. People ask me what style I design and my answer is that I think a good designer designs for their clients needs, not towards a particular re-occurring style. I like to ask clients to show me photos of spaces they like to guide me in my forms and plant selection.
We approach design with an artist's sensibility and a horticulturalist's knowledge to create outdoor living spaces and garden retreats that you'll want to spend time in
Works with Residential Clients to develop ecologically responsible gardens for outdoor living and enjoyment. Whether you need a simple planting job, or a complete outdoor-living environment, I can provide full design services including design of planting and hardscape and 3D visualizations of the site. From my experience with local installation contractors, I can ensure that your project is on-budget, and practical to install. I can collaborate with select local installers to complete your garden project.

I have a deep knowledge and love for California native plants, but my passion is helping clients get outside and enjoy their outdoor space in a way that enhances their lives. Most clients need help creating organization and structure in their garden, be it a place to sit with friends and family or a path to explore. I love guiding clients on this design journey and seeing where it will take us. I am also a practical problem solver and help clients get from design to enjoyment in an efficient, yet meaningful way.
