“My husband and I finally bought our "Dream House". Built in 1922 it had everything we were looking for but my main requirement was that it was "old". I had visions of restoring it to its glory days! I had carried around a file titled "Old House" for years with pictures of ideas and furniture that I knew I wanted to incorporate into our house. We were only going to redo one bathroom, well maybe two. But as we admired our beautiful old girl, we knew she was worthy of an entire renovation. We had a few rules: update but respect the period in which she was built. And we had to keep the original floors and windows! I needed a decorator/designer who could incorporate my ideas and dreams, in a very tight timeframe, without it losing our ideas and influence. I interviewed several: some could not work within the timeframe, one thought I was too strong-willed and bossy, one didn't think I knew what I was doing. Kelly Johnson said "When do we get started?". It was a fabulous project and experience and became a wonderful friendship. She reined me in when I wanted too much glitz and had just as much respect for the house as I did. It was a perfect match! And it is, no doubt, the prettiest house in Saint Louis/Clayton area. After all, we have couples who leave their picture, name and number several times a month with a letter that says, "if you ever think of selling your house, please call us." “I first used Directions in Design (DID) in 2003 when I completely gutted and renovated my townhouse in the Philadelphia area. I then used DID again in 2007 when I was relocated to North Carolina. In 2012, I bought a 2nd home on the coast in Florida and I called upon DID for my design needs for the 3rd time. I have been elated with their creativity, the ease of communications, and the fact they managed my projects on time and within budget; hence, I'm confident about employing this firm for a 4th time to redesign the interior of the yacht we just bought to keep behind our home in Florida. I can think of no other company to hire--but DID--to redesign the interior of our yacht. The designers at DID are adept at dealing with the complicated curvatures of a boat and the use of lightweight, marine materials used for durability in the sun, heat and salt environment. I especially enjoy working with Jane Ganz, the President of DID. She eases my mind throughout the demolition and reconstruction process by virtue of her efficient and reliable project management services. As has become usual in my experience with DID, my expectations continue to be exceeded. It is remarkable that it matters not that they are based in St. Louis, whereas I live in North Carolina and Florida now.
