“Boa Constructor is a wonderful company. They remodeled my small 1912 bungalow in the Seabright neighborhood, creating a much more livable floor plan while maintaining the integrity of the house. Using eco-friendly and salvaged materials was very important to me, and Michele, the GC, was a kindred spirit in that respect. She encouraged me to find salvaged materials on Craigslist, and she made an effort to reuse 100 year-old redwood siding, doors, etc, when I know it would have been easier to go to the lumber yard and buy something new.
Her crew is friendly, expert, and tidy--we lived onsite during our renovation (in a studio behind the house) and I always felt comfortable having the crew here.
Michele seems to know every subcontractor in Santa Cruz, and she's great at getting the best quality tilers, hardwood floor people, etc., at the best price.
Even more importantly, she is a good listener, and she is patient and flexible with clients. We were, in some ways, terrible clients--we struggled to make up our minds, my husband and I communicated with her at cross-purposes, and we expected miracles on a small budget. Michele stuck with us, dealt with the inevitable challenges and setbacks, and got us back into our home on schedule and for a reasonable price. (We did time and materials, rather than a fixed contract price, so there was no overarching budget.)
My house is a little jewel box now; thanks to the creativity and care Michele and her crew lavished on it, it's ready for another 100 years of life.”

“My wife and I reside in La Selva Beach and decided to major remodel our master bathroom from mundane to elegant. As an owner builder, I had built 3 homes in the Santa Cruz area on my own, however at this time in our lives, we wanted someone else to do the job correctly. I have two brother in laws who are retired general contractors and they were not keen on going back to work for us.
We were fortunate to have had Robert Silva introduced to us, and he made magic happen. With our input, he showed us many designs, hardware, fixture, and tile options and took our wishes to design the new bathroom for us. Robert gave us a very strait forward estimate of the costs for demolition, framing, sheetrock, tile work, plumbing, glass, painting, and all material costs. We stayed within budget without any difficulties.
One of the things that impressed us was that Robert was on the job swinging his own hammer for much of the project and all of his subcontractors were skilled professionals. The worksite was cleaned up everyday after they completed their day’s labor and we were able to use our bathroom facilities throughout the entire project (except when they were actively working on it).
Of course we did solicit competitive bids from other reputable Santa Cruz contractors, however Robert’s numbers clearly won the bidding. We were extremely pleased with his honesty, work ethic and of course the finished product that gave us our beautiful new bathroom. Without question we feel it appropriate to give ProBuilt Constuction 5 stars.”

“During the 13 month construction our neighbors would comment, "Your contractors are doing a good job on your house and we're impressed that they are respectful of the neighbors. I like it that they don't play loud music and clean up every day." We were happy to hear that.
We are even happier with the results. As the first house in Santa Cruz County to be built (technically remodeled) to the Passive House standards, we enjoy a very comfortable temperature throughout the house AND use much less energy than similar houses in the neighborhood. The biggest challenge was the air tightness requirement for Passive House certification. This was tested with a blower door to verify that the house achieve 0.6ACH50 (131 CFM in our case) which is VERY tight. Achieving this level of airtightness in the house that was originally built in 1922, where we kept the original foundation and framing, has not been done before. Santa Cruz Green Builders also installed the first Heat Recovery Ventilator in this area. The professional who came to commission the HRV commented that our installation was one of the better ones he's observed. So, the point of this paragraph is Santa Cruz Green Builders is not afraid to take on new challenges and achieve amazing results.
When you hear the words "green building" it may bring the image of a certain contemporary aesthetic to mind. But our house has the curve appeal of a nice old house -- a 1922 bungalow that has the arts and crafts styling with details in the window trims and flared skirt look on the siding. On the interior we are very happy that Santa Cruz Green Builders talked us into keeping the original floors and refinishing them. The tight grains of old fir is appealing and the polished distressed wood brings out the period style. They carefully deconstructed the house so that original base boards, doors, etc. were re-used. We also selected finishes that reflects the old arts and crafts style. When people come to our house they can't tell what's original and what's new. We like that.

The contractor, Lennox Smith, competently led a skilled team including a structural engineer and specialists in tile, wood, cabinetry, and glass. “I got Dean Corbella's name through HomeAdvisor when I was looking for a contractor to remodel a small master bathroom. He gave me an estimate for my project within my budget. I had a quote from another contractor but it was quite a bit higher. He was supposed to start my project 3 months before I needed it done but his current project was delayed. I told him that as long as he could complete my project by my deadline I would wait. He started my project 4 weeks before I needed it done. Once he started his crew worked on a schedule and kept the work area clean and well maintained especially since it was inside my house. I had ordered all the cabinets, tile, and fixtures and except for one item, Dean installed everything. He completed my project on time and I can say I am extremely happy with the way it turned out.
