“Choosing Matthew Fowler as the architect to handle the renovation of our new Florida home turned out to be a no-brainer. We'd seen his work before and once we met him and got to talking things just fit together. He's very professional and really listened. We kind of knew what we wanted but weren't sure the best way to make it happen. He wound up giving us three different looks. The one we went with (which had ideas we were totally not expecting) transformed our deck into an attached great room and gallery (my wife's a painter and I'm a photographer), gave us a much more imposing entryway and took amazing advantage of the natural light. The guy's good. And easy to talk to. He got us everything we wanted and a whole lot more. Going over the plans was a fun process. All in all a really good experience.
Building is set to begin soon. The place is going to look great!”

“On the recommendation of a local builder, we met with David to discuss an unwieldy set of additions and alterations we wanted to make to an existing (and very conventional) Key West bungalow. Among other things, we wanted a second floor suite on top of the existing one-story structure. We wanted an artist’s studio attached to the house, but with its own entrance. We wanted a “virtual basement" for clean dry storage. We wanted a dining room addition with walls of glass. We wanted a foyer convincingly attached to a house that had never had one. We wanted the existing mid-century home transformed into a gleaming, streaming contemporary. Adding to the challenge, this had to be designed so it would get approval from the stringent and restrictive Key West Historic Architectural Review Committee. Oh, and we wanted it all on a budget.
David’s plans covered the waterfront. Everything we wanted was there. The virtual basement was placed on top of the foyer. The second floor suite came with both a front and rear balcony, plus its own private staircase to the pool. The dining room was new square footage, but it felt like it had always been a part of the original footprint.
David’s work was inspired. And even with a palate of five different exterior wall colors, the plan breezed through HARC. The happy result of all this is that we didn’t just dream the impossible dream; we lived in it!”

We eventually selected these designs that although more costly for the construction will give us a terrific residence that we will be very happy with.

“I have worked with Matthew on several major projects over the past five years. The first was a large beach house remodel that needed updating and restyling. His guidance, suggestions and plans were right on the mark for my goals and taste. He was budget conscious and schedule oriented. He assisted me in making fast decisions and in keeping the remodel moving. The end product is a casual and sophisticated beach home on the Atlantic Ocean in the middle Keys.
After that first successful experience, I hired him to design a waterfront home on a canal in Key Colony Beach, Florida. We had a design consultation about our vision and not long afterwards, his presented concept was perfect and original. He supervised and managed the entire construction and worked closely with me on material selection. The home sold within a few months of completion.
I have also had him work on two remodel projects in Texas - our working cattle ranch and a personal residence.
Just recently, he designed another amazing beach front home for me personally that is just starting the site development.
