Secondly, no one ever told him we could take a full kitchen, master bath and hall bath to the studs and re-build them in 6 weeks. Especially since we couldn't take his only bathrooms apart at the same time. He started squawking about time frames in about week 2 and began dictating to us what should be done and when, not taking into account that some things couldn't be done until the thing before it was ready.
We always had the appropriate number of employees on the job for the immediate task at hand. We could never make him understand that there is a planned procession of how things have to work in order to stay on schedule. We provide a Work Order that outlines all the work to be done on any project, however he kept demanding a Project Plan. He actually wanted a projection of exactly what task would be completed down to the letter days in advance. I and our Production Manager as well as the lead on the job tried to give daily updates, but he wanted a written projection of details that were impossible to provide. I referred him to the signed Work Order, but that wasn't good enough. He would insist, for instance that I give him a to the minute commitment on countertop installation, even before template was made. Impossible!! We all tried over and over again to get him comfortable with the process. We finished the job exactly as planned. We were there every day....never missed one as is always the case. Notice he has nothing negative to say about the quality of the product, design, or installation. He has a beautiful, comfortable new home, finished in much less time than almost any other remodeler would have completed it, and he just can't see past his own lack of understanding the process. We told him from the start it would take 8 to 10 weeks and it did. This guy was so belligerent from the very beginning that my guys didn't want to be in the house. It was almost like he planned to be that way before we ever started the project. He keeps calling me a liar. He started doing that within the first 2 weeks. He kept coming up with things that he didn't understand and claiming I misrepresented it, even when I showed it to him on the Work Order. He would send me an email, for instance demanding that we remove his base cabinetry because the dishwasher opening was too wide not understanding that a 24" dishwasher doesn't fit in a 24" opening. He needs to stick to accounting and leave the tools to the pros.
It was a terrible experience almost from day one.
