I don’t think any review can truly describe the wonderful experience we had working with Brent. Hiring him as our architect was the best decision we made in building our custom home. We worked with him for almost 3 years from the design stage to our move in. Brent is extremely knowledgeable, detail oriented, ethical and one of the finest architects in the city of Houston. We were amazed with his knowledge after each of our meetings with them, most importantly during the construction phase when he guided the builder and subs to ensure the quality stayed intact and true to his drawings. He did not hesitate to express his opinions clearly and push so that no corners were cut in the process. As clients, he always listened to us and kept presenting options and drawings until we were happy. At the same time, he also kept us from mistakes and presented his opinions clearly backed up with data and experience. We fully trusted him and are extremely happy with the home we built because of him. We would highly recommend him and rehire him in a heartbeat on any future projects. As you can see from the other reviews, he does not market himself, or promote his work but he does excellent work and is extremely busy just through the word of mouth. He builds homes that are not only aesthetically appealing but are built to last. Mukund, the other architect on our project is extremely knowledgable, professional and detail oriented. Brent Nyquist, principal of Atticus Architecture, made the design and building of our dream house a great experience. Brent is very knowledgeable and thoughtful and was a tremendous resource in helping us decide everything from how to position the house on the lot to assisting in selection of cabinet pulls. He also advised us as to when he recommended "anteing up" for the best and highest quality and when he thought we could chose a less expensive option in terms of materials and subcontractors such as custom wrought iron railings design, painter quality, roof materials etc. Brent was instrumental in working hand in hand with builder, ensuring all work was done to spec and that the quality of the work was excellent. My husband and I love our home and have received many compliments on it and its design. .

Brent/Atticus ultimately worked on several projects for us. The first project was a plan to rebuild on our existing lot, but we decided due to lot size and restrictions that we wanted something larger. So we found a nearby lot and engaged him to design our family home and help guide the construction to ensure we got what we wanted. The entire experience could not have been better. Brent is a first class individual with an eye for detail and an ear for listening and really discerning. The house turned out great thanks to Atticus and our wonderful builder. None of the problems, headaches or nightmares we have heard about other architects or designers. Brent also helped us adapt our bay house design to be exactly what we wanted and the project turned out great. Cannot recommend him highly enough!!!

I me Brent when a client handed me a construction set of drawings designed by Atticus Architecture. My first impression was “WOW look at all the details”! I have completed two projects designed by Brent and his team. Both projects were large remodel/additions. No detail was left out of the drawings. From a contractor’s perspective, the drawings were accurate and complete. The the design and the details were excellent and the aesthetics and material selections were first class. I look forward to completing many more successful projects with Brent and I can highly recommend Atticus Architecture.

Brent Nyquist designed and oversaw the construction of our house in 77019. He did a remarkable job giving us helpful advice along the way, identifying potential vendors, describing the pros and cons of different products, dealing with the City and Home Owners Association, and stuck with us throughout the process. During the build phase he was on site to ensure that what he had drawn and spec'd was being built. His attention to detail was impressive. We hired Atticus (ie, Brent) in about June 2013, got the plans and detailed specs nailed down by the fourth quarter 2014 (we slowed the process down, not Brent), we had two builders bid the construction, Brent helped us evaluate the bids and we signed the building contract in December 2014, broke ground in early February 2015, and moved in December 22nd 2015. We highly recommend Brent for his attention to detail, knowledge, design effectiveness, problem solving, serviced orientation, etc. We love our house!

Brent provided plans for the remodeling of an office over our garage, which previously had been unused space. What we especially appreciated was the attention and care he gave to every detail of this comparatively small job. He was excellent at balancing outcome and cost. He visited, measured, re-measured, and met with us enough times to allow us to have meaningful input into the project; but, again, always sensitive to the needs of the project. Especially useful was also his very detailed knowledge of the code, the timelines of the city planning department. He provided good oversight over the execution of the project.

We enjoyed working with them from start to finish. Not having built a home before, and hearing about how stressful this process can be, we were somewhat unsure about taking on this type of project. However, Brent has an enormous amount of knowledge about the total building process and about the types and quality of products needed to build a beautiful and high quality home. He shared this knowledge which gave us the confidence to move forward. Brent's design talent came through when he took our ideas and put them on paper. The exterior was just what we were hoping for and the interior flows beautifully! We had very specific Ideas about what rooms we wanted and how we wanted them to function. He listened to our request and put them all into our home. It was such a fun experience that I would do it again, as long as I could have Brent involved.

In 2004 I took Brent Nyquist's class - Your Dream Home - at Rice University's Continuing Studies. Finally, in 2015, my dream home, a 1960's bungalow, became a reality, though it needed a lot of work. Immediately I chose Atticus Architecture. Because the sub title of the class was - Your Dream Home, without making huge mistakes and/or falling into the money pit! Under Brent's guidance and education I learned about 1960's period architecture and characteristic, old school components which are worth keeping. This enables me to explain concisely to the various contractors why I want certain finishes replicated. Who in turn are respectful and willing to do something extra. But all credit always goes to Brent, whom they know well. Brent has ecyclopedic knowledge of architecture, materials and design. He has a network of the finest contractors in the city. He knows the stores and dealers where one can find anything and everything related to kitchen and bath remodeling on a budget. Brent is open and enthusiastic about my own ideas but will explain why something will not work or is out of reach within my budget. Then he and his team will brainstorm until they find a compatible solution, which is always brilliant. This is not my first major remodeling project and in the past they all became nightmares. This time it is a pure joy because Brent understands and respects my vision and my budget and goes out of his way to fulfill my dream of the perfect 'forever' home. I could not have wished for a better architect and team. As for that long ago class, he stands for everything he teaches. That's why he still teaches that class!

We met Brent (the principal) nearly 20 years ago when he designed our home. He was always very approachable and responsive to our questions, ideas and concerns. He did an excellent job and was just great to work with. He also did a very good job of project management and even helped us with paint and interior choices. As with any design professional, you can't be timid about your 'druthers, so you must speak up and level the field. Brent was always amenable to our desires, but if you sit back, you'll end up with the architect's home, and you will have lost your chance to have it your way. We were so pleased with Brent's work that we hired him again to do the plans for my medical office 12 years ago...really excellent result, as predicted. Thereafter, we sought his advice on another project, which we abandoned because the cost benefit ratio wasn't there for us. Highly recommended and without reservations. steve meltzer

Atticus really shines when taking your idea & turning it in a home. Their ability to sketch difficult concepts is very good. And. Atticus also knows the construction end, very well. They visited the job site every week, going over drawings with builder. They also have great idea s about getting out of difficult situations every construction project gets into. Atticus will make your project a reality, with lots of nice architectural statements. We would use Atticus again, no question

We used Atticus for a significant home remodel on my older home in 2013/2014. Brent and team developed an existing home sketch and was very detailed and creative in the development of new architectural drawings in an effort to add a second story to our home. Brent was responsive, detail oriented, offered guidance when needed and provided many educational moments along the way for homeowners that didn't know much about the process. His knowledge of city requirements is outstanding and his pricing proved to be very competitive. We love our remodel and would highly recommend Atticus to anyone. Scott R
