I can't even begin to find all the right words to express how impressed and happy I was to work with Jim. The entire process start to finish was stellar in communication, customer service, and execution. As a designer myself, it was awesome to be on the receiving end of this design process. He listened to everything I wanted/didn't want, was prompt, and excited to work on my piece. He provided exceptional explanation, visuals, and answered all my questions/concerns. He is truly a stand up guy and an amazing artist/woodworker. He was able to create a beautiful Mid Century Modern inspired piece that has both feminine and masculine details. He worked with me to stay within my budget and really over delivered on the piece! Thank you!!

Working with Jim is always a pleasure. He likes to go through ideas with you, pulling from examples and then trying to tie that into his own take to move forward on a project. We've worked with him a couple of times and I cannot recommend the experience enough. Our "Wall" is basically the centerpiece of our home and always turns into a great conversation.

We had a pretty specific project in mind for building a reading nook (built-in bench and wall paneling) in one of our closet spaces. I happened to come across Lumbering Behemoth Construction & Design via social media and became familiar with his work through his posts. Over time I realized his work matched the style we were going for with this reading nook idea. Jim was very willing to come over and learn about the project before providing an estimate. We did end up pursuing the project and loving the outcome. Jim was very laid back and easy to work with. He helped our idea come to fruition along with adding on a few of his own ideas that made the end product even better. The new reading nook is definitely one of the highlights of our house. It was a great collaboration and we highly recommend his services.

I had the great fortune of meeting Jim at a pop-up event at West Elm (Chicago) in fall 2018. I was immediately taken with the style of the pieces he had brought with him, the clear passion and skill he brought to his work, and his vocal interest in sourcing and using reclaimed materials (sustainability!). I had been looking for a dining table for years that met a certain vision, and I felt immediately that Jim could execute on this. We talked it through, he did some modeling to make sure we were in sync, and 2 months later, I had a table (and bench) that I'm simply blown away by. Couldn't be happier with the design and incredible craftsmanship.

I hired Jim to design and create an exterior shop sign for our new location. I am thrilled with the unique result and working with Jim was a delight!

I worked with the Lumbering Behemoth to build us a custom coffee table when I couldn't find exactly what I wanted elsewhere. He took my requests for size, shape and style and built us a truly beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece. It is perfect in our space and makes me happy every day.

Jim brings a combination of talent and imagination to his projects. That’s rare to find, and once you start working with him, you will dream up so many unique projects that only he can make a reality. He created a wall-mounted pegboard for my husband’s office; a project that turned out better than we could have imagined. When we wanted to build a play structure in our backyard that was attractive, and something that our daughter could grow into, we thought of Jim. Jim is a creative problem solver. He took my pinterest board full of inspiration, a corner in our backyard (that happened to be on a hill) and our budget; and was able to make something beautiful, sturdy, and usable for years! I’m excited my home is turning into such a unique representation of my style, and that’s much in thanks to Jim. I would recommend him without reservation!

We started on a small project and continued to grow. We designed together and came up with multiple designs for function and fashion. As a restaurant owner it is always to build based on flow and Jim was the perfect fit.

As a designer, it is extremely hard to let anyone take the reigns when working on a project but with Jim, I have always felt comfortable letting him lead the way. From concept to production his insight and thoughtfulness shine through while making each and every detail important and special for the client. Not only is he an artist and craftsman, but he is also a ton-of-fun to have on site and I treasure each project we get to work together on. If you are looking for something special and heirloom quality, you've found your guy.

I commissioned a custom desk. Jim found a beautiful piece of salvaged wood and designed something that meets my needs and looks gorgeous in my home office. He shared photos and details throughout the process. I couldn't be happier with the whole experience!

Jim of Lumbering Behemoth Construction and Design completely met our expectations and took the design beyond what we could have hoped for our entertainment system that was built into our wall. We asked for a clean design in walnut with one part to store our television and a separate component to house our vinyl/speakers/receiver. All in all the work executed in a very timely fashion and installed earlier than we anticipated. He was also available to make a few adjustments once the wood expanded in the summer. I would highly recommend Jim for anyone looking for a unique design and quality craftsmanship!
