Founded in 2011, Coyle & Herr is Chicago’s Home Furnishings Consignment Warehouse. We offer a vibrant update of the consignment concept through our extensive supply of unique furnishings, extraordinary service and compelling marketing presentation. Our marketplace is filled with eclectic home furnishings, art, lighting, decor and more. Our warehouse is open to the public six days a week and we receive new consignments daily. To visit Coyle & Herr is to truly never know what to expect. Similarly, we never know what folks will ask us to consign – we consider that to be the best part of the biz – we like it all. We launched our business after a conversation with our friend, Leslie Hindman, of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. We were inspired by the notion of creating a secondary market for high quality home furnishings and decor. Each of us brings a different skill set to the business. Mary Beth Herr is trained as an architect and worked in residential interior design and on special projects design for the City of Chicago for years. Dorothy Coyle managed Chicago's Office of Tourism and marketed Chicago to the world. Our training with the city gave us an appreciation for accessibility and bringing people together in celebration. I am still reeling over the lack of professionalism in how they treated all my accessories I turned over for consignment. It was a very sad but serious lesson for me. Partly my fault for trusting people I thought were professional. I brought over many storage boxes of valuable accessories and china and did not inventory it. I thought my photographic memory was enough. It was not. Don't turn over any property without photographing it and fully describing it in your own inventory list. I called numerous times and left instructions that I changed my mind and wanted to pick up certain boxes. Left messages with one of the assistants. Neither owner ever returned my many calls. When I had a friend drive me there to retrieve things, the instructions to NOT TOUCH or even unpack certain boxes had been ignored and not inventory. None of my instructions had been followed. The assistant was no longer there when I did show unannounced to pick up items. I wanted to be polite by not coming with an appointment, but they made that impossible because they never called me to confirm anything. Learn from my hard lesson.

Dot Coyle and Mary Beth Herr are a great duo! There are very knowledge and helpful about their stock and any designing needs you may have. My organization held a meeting in their warehouse, which was very homey , comfortable, and accommodating. I'd recommend them to a friend and to other organizations/ businesses to host events there!

Coyle & Herr has been one of my 'go-to places' ever since they opened their doors. Lucky me, they now are closer to my home office so I can stop in way more often! Always interesting things to peruse and purchase, always great pricing, always helpful (and fun!) staff. Additionally, they have assisted the logistics process through suggestions of movers and working with me to make things happen smoothly. I have had clients consign with them and have been on the purchasing side on behalf of clients who are looking for the unique and interesting. Seriously, an amazing and ever-changing group of products. Generally, VERY nice quality furnishings and professionally displayed (so you can really see things). Mary Beth and Dot are treasures - just like their inventory!

Have you ever needed something unique for your designs? Have you ever needed a designer piece but didn't have the budget? Or maybe you are like me and like to find off-gassed pieces for clients who want to keep chemicals and toxins out of their home? In any case, Coyle and Herr has a continuously changing variety of furniture and decor that has been gently used. The prices are wonderful! You might be lucky, like I was when I happened to walk into Coyle and Herr with a list of needs right after they had gotten a load of new pieces that barely saw any wear and tear. We got an adjustable glass and steel table, 12 dining chairs, from two different sets, but miraculously went together, a swivel chair just recently upholstered, etc, etc. If you need to sell any of your current pieces, you can drop it off (or they have a mover they recommend). It is a consignment based service. I often call and describe what I need and they will send pictures of what they have in stock at that moment. They are so helpful!
