Buyer beware. We had specifically wanted wide french oak boards and all discussions with the company and links of examples provided to us were for french oak. We agreed to purchase the flooring and when we received the invoice it was for european oak. I questioned this and was told 'European oak indicates timber that comes from Western European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia and of course France, so your supply will include a fair proportion of French oak. I can only indicate French oak when supply is 100% from France, hence the term "Euro oak" that we use on invoices. Your wide boards are very likely to be 100% from French logs anyway, because France is the major supplier of logs big enough for such a product. Our 220mm wide boards are the only product we can promote as being 100% French oak, though pretty much all our strip flooring and parquetry is, for the simple reason that once the wide board material is selected, more than half of the log material is still available for smaller sizes, it's plain common sense really.' European oak is sustainably harvested and milled and kiln dried exactly like French oak, as opposed to timber sourced from Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria...). I understand your concern, many clients go through that cycle when purchasing flooring, but rest assured that you will be very happy with the final result, you will not be disappointed with the product at all.' We ordered and had to pay in full before delivery was arranged. We paid for solid european oak flooring, ABC grade, however upon delivery we actually received ABCD grade that was full of large knots and a more rustic finish which we had not wanted. We were charged at the rate of the better grade timbers and are really disappointed with the outcome.
