I recently hired Hemax to construct a patio under my raised deck on my Ashburn townhouse. I did do research on the Internet but didn't have strong impressions from any of the other contractors. A family member had hired Hemax a couple of years ago to do a large landscaping job and he was happy with the results. Dave from Hemax contacted me shortly after I sent an inquiry via email. He came to my home and gave me some very good design suggestions. He told me with the steps I would follow to engage them and the sequence and timing of the construction of the patio. Dave provided me a number of catalogs with paver options and allowed me time to make a choice of materials. The construction began on time, just a couple of weeks after signing the contract. The crew was here three days straight with no disruptions. They were very thorough and built a beautiful patio, cleaned up the entire work area and even put down grass seed around the boarder of the patio. I would not hesitate recommending Hemax to others and I plan to contact them again for a future landscaping project.

I've used HEMAX on several occasions. They are great to work with and have very fair pricing. They have a lot of talent with that company and seem to be able to do just about anything. They designed and built an amazing patio for us that included an outdoor kitchen, sitting wall. patio lighting, beautiful landscaping and a nice walkway with stones from the driveway to our patio. They are all very courteous, responsive and trustworthy. I will only use them for my future projects.

Hemax just completed a large installation of artificial turf on the playgrounds of one of our schools in Ashburn, VA. The job was professionally handled. No corners were cut, and the team and the supervisors made sure that the job was well done and issues-free. We are very pleased with the results. We highly recommend this company!

We purchased a Hartley-Botanic Greenhouse and needed to find a company to build the foundation. HEMAX exceeded all expectations, from working with us through zoning issues, getting the permits, working through any questions/issues with Hartley-Botanic and building the foundation to the exact specifications required. The crews were friendly, professional and did beautiful work. Henry Cruz kept us informed at every step of the project, and when we had questions, got back to us promptly. At the end of the project, we had some concerns about water draining away from the house, and Henry was able to suggest a solution and get the work done within a couple of days. I will hire this company again in a heartbeat. It was a pleasure to work with Henry, and we will be enjoying our beautiful greenhouse for many years to come. Highly recommend!

We have been using HEMAX for all our hardscaping and landscaping needs for the past 7 years. They built our patio and retaining wall and they put in our front walk. They created our gardens when we first moved in, and we have had them come and do a spring cleanup each year. We have modified our gardens since then and have had them do all the work. HEMAX built us a beautiful flagstone patio, walkway, and steps on a concrete base, placed large stone steps on our hill, and set heavy capstones on an existing dry stone wall. They finished the job with lighting and drainage. We were pleased with the services we hired from HEMAX, including the initial design and consultation from Henry, as well as the expert job by the installation crew under Kelvin's supervision. HEMAX was competitive on price with bids from other landscape contractors, and we found the quality of their proposal and their work to be top-notch.

Our HOA needed to replace a failed 60-foot long drainage pipe that ran across one our private roads leading into a cul de sac and also had to address a number of erosion issues that the HOA had been dealing with at the pipe entrance and exit for many years. The HOA solicited potential solutions and 4 bids for the job from local contractors. Full-time access for residents during the project and ensuring that all necessary materials were available in a timely manner was a huge consideration for the HOA - especially with winter approaching. HEMAX was selected because they provided a solid plan, assured material availability, a guaranteed project start date and submitted the most competitive quote. The project involved asphalt cutting, excavation and replacement of a 24-inch corrugated metal drainage pipe with a high density polyethylene pipe, installation and compaction of fill over the new pipe to specifications and the application of hot-patch asphalt to repair the road surface. The project also included: the creation of new culverts and catch basins, the establishment of a head wall at the new pipe entrance, repair of existing culverts, and providing additional fill and re-grading of both sides of the private road for safety and also to help ease future maintenance of the area. Afterward, all work was seeded, covered with erosion control matting and lined with rip rap. Throughout the whole project, the HEMAX team kept the HOA Board informed and did an outstanding job. The project started and completed on-time and was efficiently executed so that residents had full-time access to the area and were minimally affected. Each night, the work area was well cleaned and all equipment safely stowed. The HOA Board highly recommends HEMAX based on their cost and performance on this project and will definitely consider them for future work within the HOA.

After a reference from our architect, we hired HEMAX to build a new deck and replace and build a new front walkway and new front stoop. We’ve worked with many contractors on various projects in the past 20 years. Not one lives up to the standards of Henry Cruz and his crew! Mr. Cruz was at our house promptly at 8 am with a crew of 9 people on the day our project started. HEMAX started on time, finished the project on time, made suggestions that saved time and money, and was ALWAYS available to answer questions and address any concerns we had. It’s the kind of five-star service that we’ve rarely seen with other contractors. We received so many compliments about our deck and walkway from our neighbors. We could not be happier with the work that Hemax did for us. They completely transformed our backyard with a patio installation along with sod installation. We get complements on our yard and patio daily. During the planning process Henry was very attentive to our desires and wishes. He drew up several plans until we found exactly what we were looking for. He came to our home and spayed an outline to help us envision a little better what the finished product would look like. His team was quick but very thorough with the installation. Another thing we loved is that when Henry came out he noticed another issue we were having and which helped us take a proactive approach to solving rather than an expensive reactive approach in the future. And what we loved even more is that when we noticed a small issue Henry immediately responded and the team came back to fix it right away. We cannot wait to have family over to experience our new yard and already have several other projects lined up for Henry and his crew to tackle. I highly recommend Hemax!!

I found HEMAX Construction through Next Door Neighbor and called them for replacing our concrete walkway to our front door with a flag-stoned walkway. They delivered a high-quality job within the expected timeline and we're very happy with both the sales support that Henry Cruz provided as well as the construction work done by the team. They were not cheap but I guess high quality cannot be cheap. Overall, a great supplier that we would recommend.

Hemax is one of the best contractors I've worked with in over the twenty years I have own my home. I researched and interviewed over 6 contractors for my project. I know it was going to be pricey and I had no idea what I need done, other than I had a drainage problem. All I knew was I had a drainage problem that needed to be fixed. I needed a contractor to come in and tell me what he or she can do to fix my drainage problem. I met Henry one of the owners and he explain to me how he would fix my drainage problem. Henry drew up a beautiful design. Once Henry explained his design and how it was going to work, I was very happy. I asked Henry lots of questions after showing me his design. His design was so beautiful that I start asking questions and he started giving me suggestions, because I wanted a beautiful backyard. I must also say Henry was very patient and understanding with me with all the questions. Most contractors would have been irritated. Henry was always honest and upfront with me and a man of his word. I trust Henry and Hemax Construction & Landscaping and I will be a repeat customer. If you need a contractor, please call or email Hemax first they are one of the best companies in Northern Virginia. I have one more thing to say. I know I am a customer, but I consider Henry as a friend. Because he was so honest, kind, and upfront with me. Attached are a few pictures of before and after.

My experience with them did not go well. I hired them to do landscaping and a drainage project which included installing underground pipes and a dry creek bed. They gave me 2 estimates and I decided to go with estimate B which was more expensive. Chip, the salesman, swore that he would be on site and make sure everything always went well which was a big reason I hired them. Well Chip told the workers to do estimate A instead. So it started off badly. Then every single thing Chip told me would get done did not get done and he took days to more than a week to show up to check. The project should have taken 4 days but it took more than a month. Chip kept saying "oh this never happens" over and over about at least 4 things. If I am really the only one they mess up with you'd think they would try harder to fix it correctly and in a timely manner. The disconnect between the workers and the sales team is horrible. I would not hire them again ever.

Hemax was incredible to work with for our backyard revamp: deck, patio, stonework and more. Professional, skilled and efficient. Really great experience from the first meeting and highly recommend.

We cannot recommend Hemax more highly. Their level of professionalism, attention to detail, workmanship and just overall complete pride in their work is unmatched by any company we have hired in the past several years. We contracted Hemax to help with some extensive drainage/flooding issues in our side yard. The project was beautifully done with so much care attention to detail. We were very impressed with our project manager, Chip Johnson, who was a pleasure to work with. Additionally, at one point, one of the owners, Henry, also came out and suggested an alteration that he thought would improve the project and Hemax made that adjustment at no additional cost to us. This is just so rare nowadays and we could not have been more impressed. The crew was on time, meticulous, courteous and did exceptional work. It is just rare to find a company nowadays with this level of professionalism and pride in their work. we hired henry and his guys after seeing some amazing stone work they had done for our neighbor. we had them build a stacked stone and concrete wall along the from of our house and their work knocked my socks off! i’ve done this kind of work before but their abilities r amazing and we r very happy with their work and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. We asked HEMAX to design a stone patio, stairs and a seating wall in our side yard next to a new addition. Henry was incredibly helpful and super nice to work with. He listened and provided ideas, took precise measurements and drew up a plan, then worked with us to adjust it for our budget and preferences. The project went completely on schedule and on budget, and his crew did a fantastic job, showing particular artistry with the stacked stone walls. I have confidence that the work is high quality and will stand the test of time. The team addressed any issues I raised with an eagerness to please the customer. We invested in a new home and found out within a few months that there was a leak in our basement. Since we first detected the problem, we worked with several handymen and vendors and wasted a good amount of money. Our neighbor recommended Hemax, and from the get-go, their service was extremely professional. They went above and beyond to understand and address our issues in one sweep and in a timely manner. Our representative Chris also came in to address some basic questions we had during a follow-up. We plan to work with Hemax on several projects down the line and strongly recommend this company.

Man, these guys are hard workers. I had a backyard drainage issue that resulted in the premature rotting of my ground level deck. Deck was only 7years old. chris lofstrum came out on a day when it had been pouring rain and saw first hand how the water pooled in some spots and ran riverlike in others. He was able to assess our issue and came up with an effective solution. His crew worked tirelessly to hand dig trenches in 90+ degree heat through hard clay and shale. Substantial regrading under the existing deck and yard was required. At the end of each work day the crew cleaned up site and made it safe for my animals. My job came in on budget and more important it works quite effectively. I had a lot of concerns as this project progressed. chris put my mind at ease every time I had a question he got back to me right away or met me on site and was quick to address any issue. I have to give the work crews kudos for their hard work, diligence and skill as well as craftsman ship . We greatly appreciated that. Cut to the chase, great planning,great execution, came in on budget. Nice folks in the front office as well.

We hired Hemax after Chris L. patiently worked with us on a design that would fit our budget. Couldn’t be happier with the results - we have spent a lot more time outside thanks to our amazing new yard. We hired Hemax to do some fencing and pour a large concrete driveway and walkway. Henry at Hemax was great to work with. When talking through projects with him he really listened to us, he was very knowledgeable, and he offered up many different options and ideas. Once the project was completed, he ensured that everything was as it should be, until we were completely satisfied. I really felt like he treated it like his own home!

Hemax performed a drainage improvement project in conjunction with a complete driveway replacement. The project turned out excellent. On time, professional and knowledgeable crews. Henry Cruz is an excellent project manager. He provides extra value to the job with his insightful ideas. Price was fair and there was no pressure to increase it; only truly valuable recommendations. I poured about 50 gallons of water down the driveway and was very pleased with the improved grading of the driveway and the functionality of the catch basin. The drainage improvement and driveway both look great and I look forward to many years of enjoying the added functionality they provide. Money well spent on a job well done.

We hired HEMAX to deal with water drainage in the backyard and creating a safer path from the front to the back, as well as around the deck, especially where the yard slopes downward. In addition, we wanted to add a tree and native plants. We are extremely happy with the results. With a new sidewalk along the house and stepping stones in the back yard, it is easier to get around and the stones especially are attractive. The project manager, Chris, worked with us to select the appropriate tree and native plants. During the project, the work crew was amazing. They worked very long hours and paid close attention to detail. We added some additional tasks as we went along. Each time we received a written estimate and the work was completed in a timely manner. The crew also did a great job of cleaning up the work site. The project manager followed up to ensure that everything was completed to our satisfaction. I recommend HEMAX without reservation.

cracked foundation & repair of patio henry & his crew are GREAT !! we had a crack in foundation due to flow of water. Hemax repaired the crack & put pavers in patio a year ago. Patio looks great & no more water in basement !!

After a long wait to have our old brick patio redone, we were extremely pleased and happy with the new structural changes Chris designed. He provided a design that complemented an old home but having a modern touch. The outcome was fabulous! We would definitely use HEMAX for future work and refer then to others. They provided an attractive flowing outdoor patio for entertainment and relaxation.

We had water seeping into the basement during heavy downpours. HEMAX came out and immediately identified the issue. They suggested diverting the water draining from the downspouts, raise the grade along the side of the house, build a swale along the same area, and remove a tree that was in the same area which was raising the AC unit off its foundation. They were able to get the job done quickly and efficiently. The area looks really good, the AC unit is nice and level, and no more water in the basement! The price was comparable to other quotes. We would have no hesitation working with HEMAX again in the future.

A major reason that we selected HEMAX to install a front walkway and landscaping was their prior excellent reviews that they had received. We were not disappointed. Their work was outstanding. The project was completed with quality work and craftsmanship and we were very impressed with the team’s attention to detail. We had standing water in our back yard that had gotten worse over the past few years. Chris from HEMAX came out and gave us several solutions without a pressure sale. The work was scheduled within a 2 week window and completed the same day. The cost was below what we were expecting to pay for the amount of work that needed to be done. I highly recommend these folks for any landscape projects.

After a recent, horrendous experience with a general contractor who created surface water drainage problems resulting in repeated incidents of rain water in my basement, then refused to fix the problems and even imposed a mechanics lien when I refused to make final payment, I was desperate to find a reputable and competent contractor to fix the mess created by the first contractor. I found Hemax, and I'm glad I did. I had on-site interviews with four companies before choosing Hemax. In addition to fixing grading and surface water drainage problems, Hemax installed a 50' x 3' curved retaining wall and a 400sqft paver patio, as well as 500sqft of sod and mulch. From the hands-on company co-owner and the sales/project manager to the crew of guys who did the work, everyone I dealt with was professional and responsive. The same guys showed up every day, put in a full-day's work every day, leaving time at the end of each day to clean up the work site. Not only would I highly recommend Hemax, I have already recommended Hemax several times.

I highly recommend Hemax! We hired Hemax in August 2018 to fix water leaking into our basement in a house we recently purchased. After receiving multiple quotes, Hemax was not necessarily the cheapest, but they were by far the most thorough and easiest to work with, which was well-worth the money and peace of mind. To address the water problems our house had, Hemax removed an old concrete patio that was sloping toward the house and causing water to pool against our foundation. They repaired the foundation wall (by digging 33' long by 7' deep) to expose the foundation and install metal lath/waterproof the foundation. They also installed an exterior drain and sump pump (with a battery back-up system) in our basement (we previously did not have a sump pump). Hemax also extended our down spouts to improve drainage and keep water away from our house, in addition to installing a french drain where water was pooling in our front yard. The crew was extremely professional and Henry was always available to answer our questions. Since they completed their work, we have not had any water issues at all, and we are looking forward to hiring them again for all of our future exterior home projects.

HEMAX of Herndon, VA recently completed an exterior drainage project at my residence which consisted of laying PVC pipes underground down the sides and rear of our property and tying in seven rain gutter outlets/hoses to the pipes to direct the water flow to a single outlet at the rear of the property. Because of the angle of our sloped lot and design of the gutter system, we were experiencing excessive water overflow during heavy rains that resulted in gullies and trenches being dug through our mulched beds and grass. We obtained three estimates and chose HEMAX based on their explanation and description of the proposed solution and the professionalism demonstrated throughout the proposal process. Of the three companies consulted HEMAX was in the middle on price but used the best material (PVC Pipe Schedule 40) and gave me a sense of confidence in their ability to perform. Their work and workers far exceeded our expectations in every way. They were timely, neat, polite, and committed. They worked tirelessly in very hot weather, cleaned up each evening, and left our affected yard areas in a greatly improved condition upon job completion. Our project was managed by Max who made the initial onsite inspection, developed the proposal, and oversaw work performance. I also worked with Tatiana (Office Manager) on finalizing the contract and various administrative details. She too was extremely professional and courteous. I would definitely hire this company again for any services they provide.
