Our History --- from Ditch Digger to Award Winning Contractor I received my landscape contractor's license and became sole owner of my business in 1971. I have operated as a sole proprietor since that time. The first 12 years of my experience was providing services in the Santa Barbara area, wherein we designed and installed the landscaping at President Regan's ranch and a recreational field at Jane Fonda's ranch among others. Due to a protracted building moratorium in that area, we relocated to the Bay area in 1983. Since that time, we have received at least one award every year from the local California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA). In additon, we have won several awards from statewide competition in the CLCA. In 1991, I served as the local president of the CLCA and in 1994, served as the State president. In early 1995, I realized that I could better serve my clients if I was able to focus on their needs without the distraction of employees. At that time, I changed the name of the firm from Everett Landscape to EvLand LLC. Under the name of Everett Landscape, I had developed a stable of subcontractors that I could rely upon. Using former competitors in the CLCA to take care of the planting and irrigation and my former subcontractors for necessary allied trades (such as electricians, masons, concrete, swim pools, carpentry, etc.), I was able to continue to offer my clients the highest workmanship, while concentrating on design and supervision. If you are interested in our services and contact us, I will be glad to provide you with a list of past clients. The clients on this list come from projects over the past decade. They have not been contacted since installation, so as to provide an honest appraisal of lasting value of their landscape investment and experience working with EvLand. Jim completely remodeled our multilevel backyard in 2014. It was not a small or easy job. The project included removing a pool, installing a hot tub, building a deck and multiple patios, terracing an area with rock walls and adding some rather hefty retaining walls. We could not be happier with the results. Jim is a pleasure to work with and genuinely values his clients. All of the people he brings in to work on the job are top notch. If you believe in doing things right the first time around, Jim is the person you should work with!

Jim installed a multidimensional and multifunctional backyard oasis, recreation and entertainment center for all ages in on a mere rear strip of a back yard on a 1/4 acre site in central Menlo Park. He transformed what was often referred to as a bowling alley with stadium bleachers for deck stairs into a textured sophisticated and approachable entertainment area for all ages. His task was to accommodate toddlers through teens with consideration of entertainment minded adults. From nothing but turf and boards, he installed a stone patio with water feature, expansive decking, hot tub nook, fire pit attraction, stone outpost we named el Capitan, play structure wing, and storage area -- all with arbors, fixed bench rail, stepped stone areas with fragrant ground cover, screening with palm trees and vines, and a convenient grilling area. We have hosted many occasions (fundraisers, wedding brunches, all ages of birthdays from 1 year to 50 years, each with several dozen guests at a time in the area with multiple conversation areas all within range to maintain cohesiveness. Jim's installation won a top 2003 honor of distinguished installation in on the Peninsula. He is open to customer's needs: budget and entertaining and recreation considerations. He assisted in material selection of both land and hardscape -- and it doesn't look like every other yard you see -- it has character, charm, consideration and elegance in every way. In spite of it's age, and our wear and tear of 6 resident boys now ages 6-25, the space remains what it was intended to be -- a destination for recreation, celebration, tranquility and Joy for years to come!

Jim is fabulous! We hired him to install a completely new rear landscape and to renovate our front landscape. He took our yard down to the dirt, jackhammered out our old patio, installed a pool, new patio, new wooden deck and the foundation for our pool house, regraded the yard and installed new plantings throughout. He works hard and efficiently and our project was done in an impressively short time. He is communicative, responsive, client-focussed and honest. He took proactive steps to keep the project moving forward as well as to buffer our family as much as possible from the noise and inconvenience of living with the construction. He is a good listener and is respectful and excellent with follow through. Jim is also knowledgeable and a creative problem-solver. During our project, he was always happy to fill me in on the details of any of the many things he had going on out there at any given time. He has a network of subcontractors he has known for years and the team is reliable, efficient and courteous. We have had a prior experience doing a much smaller landscaping project with another firm that went very badly, took years to complete and ultimately involved a law suit. Now that we have worked with Jim, we would never consider modifying our landscape without him.

EvLand completed a project for us several years ago that included a site survey, reshaping the driveway, reshaping the front of the property, building a fence and finally selecting and planting all new plant material. We were exceptionally please! Jim came up with creative solutions to our environmental and drainage problems, he managed the project on time and within our budget, he was patient in helping novices such as ourselves get thru a messy outdoor remodeling project, and even after the plants were in the ground is maintained an interest in how they were establishing and the on-going success of the project. Every time we drive into our driveway and see the overall effect that the landscaping has had on the curb appeal of our home, we have a renewed appreciation for all EvLand had done for us. EvLand is our go-to landscaping company for any landscaping work we do!!

Jim created a waterfall in our back yard that is absolutely beautiful. He also cleaned up the pathway on our hill, did some landscaping, and built new limestone steps - wonderful. We are thrilled with his work and his attention to detail. Jim is also up front about the costs and stays within budgets. We are looking forward to the next project with Jim and his crew that will start later this summer.

Three qualities (there are more) that make Jim Everett highly recommendable are his Commitment (he was onsite most of virtually every day of the project); Attention (he listened hard to our wishes & interests and required us to fill out detailed questionnaires); and his Creativity (solving problematic backyard - narrow with an invasive telephone pole - in yet another award-winning way). In addition, his unique business model brings for the homeowner benefit, the cream of the crop of sub-contractors to your job. He works hard to earn your trust, which is necessary because he does not work with blueprints or drawings and doesn't arrive with a slick i-pad presentation. Instead, he will just sit in your space (with your wishes in mind) for a couple of hours undisturbed and figure it out! His high credentials are well earned!

I highly recommend Everett Landscaping! They did an incredible job with both the front and backyards of my Foster City property, leaving us with very low-maintenance and beautiful landscaping. I knew instantly when meeting Jim that we would work very well together and that we did. He treated me with respect (despite my lack of knowledge), was very honest about what things I might be able to save money on. My job was small compared to what he typically gets involved in, yet I never felt any less important than his other clients. I still contact him to this day with questions and he never fails to get back to me either with a phone call or a visit.

Jim and his crew installed a beautiful 20' long water feature on my backyard hillside. Put a lot of thought into it....and it cam out great. Makes my formerly static backyard come alive with sound, motion....and birds (they love to come wash in the shallow rock pool that feeds into the downhill rush). Also installed a flagstone patio, small lawn, a fieldstone rock wall, drainage, drip and many new plants. The final result is beautiful. Jim is very communicative and does what he says he's going to do. He will do what you ask. As you should with any contractor, be sure to tell him exactly what you want. He's not a mindreader. His crew is incredibly hard working. They hauled a ton of dirt and rock up to my backyard. All very nice guys. Overall, very impressed with Jim, his crew, and the job they did for me.
