Malena Kaplan founded MK Staging and Design in 2007 with one purpose in mind: To make a difference in peoples lives by enhancing their interiors. Whether guiding realtors and home sellers, staging vacant and model homes, or working with homeowners on design projects, Malena utilizes her extensive experience as a former realtor and in sales and operations within mortgage finance, coupled with current design trends, to bring a professional and unique approach to each project. Having worked on projects for HGTV and with clients all over the country, Malena’s impeccable, fresh and easy luxury design aesthetic is one that home owners and buyers love equally. As a professional member of RESA (The Real Estate Staging Association), and HSRA (The Home Staging and Redesign Association), a certified staging instructor and drawing from her experiences, Malena offers staging workshops and presentations, educating realtors and sellers on staging and its proven benefits.

MK Staging and Design helped us stage our property in April 2020, which garnered a full price offer within 4 days it was put on market. Even in the midst of a pandemic, when many processes were asked to be changed to allow social distancing, MK Staging and Design found a way to accommodate us as planned, staying flexible given the unusual time, and showing professionalism throughout the process. We thought the staging was of really good taste, and put our condo in a great light.

MK Staging and Design far exceeded our expectations as they prepared our home for sale in Bethesda, MD! Malena and her staff personally owned the project and early on painted a picture of what was possible for a new family to fall in love with the property -- which is what we wished for. They provided guidance clearing the home of belongings dating back 60 years. They packed belongings taking personal interest in each item and contacting us with any questions. They then arranged the shipping of household items to three different locations. Most visibly, however, was the outstanding staging of the property: coordinating their efforts with those of the contractor who restored the house and surroundings, Malena made timely suggestions and tasteful choices in presenting the house in a way that accentuated its best features (see attached photos). As a result, we believe, we were able to put the house on the market at an optimum time and received a number of offers that exceeded the asking price. We couldn't be more pleased with the services that MK Staging and Design provided and would recommend them highly to anyone in the Washington DC market area!!!!

MK Staging and Design did a fantastic job staging our N.W. Washington, DC home. Malena and her team made the house look fresh and inviting. In fact, I don’t think our family home has ever looked better. We had a ratified contract 6 days after staging. The team was very communicative and kept us informed throughout the process. Malena and her team did such an amazing job staging our newly built home. Everyone that walked through the listing admired the decor. She really transformed an empty house to feel extremely cozy yet luxurious. Her taste is impeccable and every piece she chose complimented the house design perfectly, from the furniture to the rugs to the books on the library shelves. Not a detail was spared. I can not say enough good things about Melena Kaplan and her team!!! I’m a realtor at Urban Compass in the DC metro region. After my go to person at another staging company moved away I was at at loss to find someone who I could trust to get things done and done right. One afternoon I was attending a meeting where several colleagues were RAVING about their staging person Melena Kaplan. Now, I know why...she and her team are awesome!!! First of all, the basics...she’s organized on time, she listens and understands exactly what it takes to get the job done. She has beautiful taste, her staging has an elegant high end contemporary feel. Everything she pulls for the property is just right. Many stagers have a tendency to use too much glitz and glitter or just use too much “stuff”, which I was always hiding away in closets. The art work she uses is excellent. For one of my listings she didn’t have the piece that she felt worked for the space, so she painted 2 canvases right on the spot!! Unbelievable!! She’ll even supervise renovations and contractors needed to get a home ready for market. The bottom line...when Melena and her crew stage a home I know it’s going to sell and sell quickly. Melena Kaplan gets it done!

I use MK Staging and Design on a regular basis in my real estate business ( for at least 5 years). I provide a 2 hour consultation with MK Staging and Design to my client's on all of my new listings. She gives invaluable advice to my clients to help them sell their homes for the most amount of money and her guidance can help to decrease the number of days it would normally take to sell that home! She will make suggestions that she knows make the most sense when trying to sell their homes. She is designing to sell, so that first impression as the buyer walks into their home is a GREAT one! I also happen to know she is also used frequently for her design abilities. I will sometimes give a buyer client a 2 hour consultation with Malena as a closing gift to help them get started in their new home. Using Malena has certainly helped my business. She is a wonderful compliment to anyone who needs design advice.

From the first consultation to the end of the staging term, MK Staging and Design headed by Malena Kaplan did an absolutely fantastic job -- going above and beyond both in quality of the furnishings and (just as important) excellent customer service. The furniture was stylish, showcased our listing perfectly and I'm convinced -- helped us to receive an offer from the buyers within the first ten days of the listing. Malena and her crew spent a lot of time setting up and getting everything just right and were very responsive to my seller's needs. She checked up frequently to make sure everything was going smoothly. I couldn't have been happier with MK Staging and Design and won't hesitate to call Malena to stage our next listing. She was a pleasure to work with!
