Vanillawood

Bait and switch - not recommended. I ordered a $2400 chair from Vanillawood and received a message a week later informing me that "the manufacturer changed the leather" and asked if was okay to send me this "new" product instead of what I originally ordered. Upon further investigation, they were actually offering to send a completely different product from a different manufacturer (confirmed with the original manufacturer that the product wasn't theirs), that appears to be lower quality and not at all what I was looking for. I would not recommend purchasing from this store, particularly if you see something that isn't available elsewhere, because it probably isn't even real.

We would hire Vanillawood again and again! They are so pleasant to work with: timely, responsive, inspiring! Our completed project still thrills us every day - beyond expectations.

I cannot say enough good things about James and Kricken, the husband and wife behind Vanillawood. After browsing a little bit around, I really fell in love with their style modern and contemporary yet warm with a European influence. A couple of friends also shared their positive experience with them. The fact that they are a full service firm, James leading the budgeting and the contracting crew and Kricken the interior design team, made also a huge difference for me since I didn’t want to deal with electricians, painters, plumbers etc. They did it all. Their vision is very close to mine: we did a major remodeling inside and out, changing the old cedar siding of my house with stucco and mahogany wood, we also built an addition downstairs, added a bathroom, two decks (one with a swimspa), and we remodeled completely the lower and the first floor, as well as the kitchen which was entirely redesigned with an Italian flare. Of course we revamped also the interiors with custom furniture and the unique design touches of Kricken. It turned out so beautiful! I constantly get compliments from our neighbors and friends and every time I bump into someone walking by the house. Always open to incorporate my ideas (I have lots!) and work it out to best fit in the project. Great communication, stayed on budget, wonderful attention to every detail, always ready to solve any issue that can happen along the way, I really enjoyed working with them, both on a professional and on a personal stand point, which is really important considering all the time you have to spend together. Highly recommended!

Kricken and James are full of fresh ideas, a keen sense of modern design, the practicality that is imperative for active families and a flexibility that makes working together fun and productive. We love what they have done to our house!

Great space planning, design, and build firm. Very conscious of budget without compromising aesthetic. Our project stayed on schedule, on budget, and the outcome is fantastic! We really enjoyed working with James on the build - he's great at executing the vision and making sure things are done right. When there were hiccups, he was very good at coming up with options to remedy, and was very patient with our questions and needs. We also did a fair amount of work ourselves, which James built into the plan seamlessly. The total spend was barely over budget, but they were able to work the initial bid to 25% less than 2 other premier Portland-area firms we met with. Highly recommend you talk with Vanillawood if you're considering a major remodel.

Kricken, James and the entire Vanillawood team have consistently help create beautiful spaces for us. The store selection is spot on, their aesthetic vision combined with their high quality execution makes for a perfect combination. We originally used them for a larger remodel, but have continued to use for additional interior design.

We've worked with Kricken and James on several projects in our home. The two of them are the perfect combination of creativity and design, along with the know how to implement the plan. The largest project we had done was a complete kitchen remodel that came out beautifully, on budget and on time. We would happily use them again in the future as well as recommend them to others.

Last year 2015 was the year to do a mini face lift to our suburban home. We wanted to put a funky out of the box vibe bring a little urban to the burbs. Kricken Yaker and her design staff at Vanillawood were super fun to work with and totally understood what we wanted. We painted, recovered items, purchased new furniture items, rugs, wallpaper and more! Professional, fun, open minded are just a few ways to describe the Vanillawood team. They were also helpful in getting us to stretch out of our comfort zone in the best way! Cutting edge for sure!

We are in the process of having our house remodeled. Vanillawood is working simply as the GC. They have been on time, responsive, and transparent about their costs.
