In 2015, Green Shield Construction Services built a one car garage addition that was full of delays and they destroyed a mini split heating unit they installed by incorrectly hooking it up to an electrical line they also installed. They told me months ago they would replace the heater. It has been over 11 months since they damaged the heater and they still have not replaced it. I have sent countless phone calls and emails to them over the past months, most of which have gone unanswered, and have only received excuses and delays in return as they continuously blamed financial difficulties and inability to schedule subcontractors.
I signed a contract with Jeremy Mitchell of Green Shield Construction Services on December 2014 to have a one car garage built. Contract stated project would be completed in approximately 30 days once construction started. They finally started construction in May 2015. Five months later, on October 7, 2015, Jeremy said everything was done and requested final payment. Afterwards, I discovered that they had not completed the installation of the garage mini split heater unit, it was not functioning.
On Oct. 29, Green Shield sent out an HVAC repairman who tried to get the unit working but could not. After I sent them numerous emails, they finally came out to look at the unit on Nov. 18th and also could not get it working. Jeremy Mitchell said they would replace the unit.
On Dec. 4, 2015, after I sent more emails to get a status update, Heather Mitchell, the office manager, sent me an email stating that the new heater was on the way and would be here the following week. Over three weeks later the new heater they said they ordered still had not arrived and Heather Mitchell sent me an email saying, ‘I am working with the company who manufactured the unit. They guaranteed me 2 weeks ago it would arrive and now no one knows what is going on.’ On January 6, 2016 she sent me another email stating ‘The HVAC Manufacture would like to now send someone out to trouble shoot the unit.’ No heater ever arrived – it appears that they had never ordered one.
On January 12, 2016, more than three months after they said the garage was completed and took my final payment, they sent an HVAC serviceman out to troubleshoot the heater who discovered that during the installation Green Shield Construction Services connected the 115 V mini split heater unit to a 220V power line that they had installed, destroying the heater.
On January 26, 2016 Jeremy Mitchell sent me and email saying that the replacement will cost Green Shield Services out of pocket and that as soon as they had the funds available they would order a new heater.
On April 11th Heather Mitchell said they ordered the unit. After I again sent them a number of emails trying to get a status update, on May 11th, they sent me a copy of the heater invoice. I contacted the dealer on the order who said the heater was just ordered on May 11th, a full month after Heather Mitchell told me that they had ordered it. Another example of her not telling me the truth.
Below are the continued emails Heather Mitchell sent me of excuses and delays in response to my numerous emails for status updates:
(Green Shield) 3/28 - ‘Green Shield should be in position to purchase new units towards the end of this week. ’
(Green Shield) 4/11 - ‘Yes, I have ordered the unit over the weekend. Will forward tracking info to you once they have sent it out. It will ship directly to you.’
(Green Shield) 5/11 - ‘The units have not come in yet, as advised in previous emails I would send you a tracking confirmation once it was established. .’
(Green Shield) 5/19 - ‘Units have shipped and are actually shipping to our office. I'm hoping to have them by mid week, next week. We have the electrician on stanby so hoping to get it done over next weekend.’
Finally, on June 9 Green Shield sent an electrician who said some rewiring would be required but did nothing. In the following months Heather Mitchell emailed four more times with excuses and absolutely no action.
(Green Shield) 6/23 - ‘Trying to nail down the HVAC crew. Should know something by this weekend.’
(Green Shield) 7/12 - ‘ASAP, working with the electrician now. As soon as I've confirmed will let you know something.’
(Green Shield) 7/21 - ‘Following up again with the electrician now, will let you know something ASAP.’
(Green Shield) 7/28 - ‘We understand your frustration, we can deliver them this weekend but do not have confirmation from the electrician of his availability.’
It is now September 2016 and they still have not replaced the mini split unit they destroyed. It has been 11 months since they damaged the heater during installation and 16 months since they started working on the garage. Green Shield has done nothing but lie to me, give me excuses blaming financial difficulties and the inability to coordinate workers, and appear to have no intention of replacing the heater.
I am honestly amazed that a company would treat a customer this way and actually try to get away with something as blatant as this. This has been a complete nightmare, and a costly one. Green Shield Construction Services is the most unreliable and unprofessional contractor I have ever worked with.
