While Bensonwood is still known for its exceedingly artful timberframe homes, it is also widely acknowledged as an innovative builder of hybrid and non-timbered, panelized homes as well. Through its custom fabrication of highly insulated and finished panelized assemblies, and its proprietary Open-Built® strategies that make the home flexible and adaptable to the owners' needs over time, Bensonwood has become acknowledged as the premier designer-builder of energy-efficient, high-performance buildings across the US and Canada. Among these are two LEED Platinum certified , Net-Zero public buildings in Maine and Vermont that create as much energy as they consume, and a Passive House in Vermont that requires no furnace. In 2012, Bensonwood launched a sister company, Unity Homes; an optimized series of pre-designed, Net-Zero ready homes, with the goal of making beautiful, healthy, high-performance prefab homes available to the broadest possible market segment. Bensonwood is an ENERGY STAR Partner, a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, the Timber Framers Guild and the Forest Stewardship Council.
