“We hired Gene Glaze because of his experience and expertise in ADA standards. (We are retired and planning to "age in place.) Turned out to be a great choice. Gene is the best contractor I have ever worked with. He is highly regarded by his subcontractors, and hires the best. His site supervisor and head carpenter, Jeff, is delightful to work with and an outstanding craftsman. We're more than a year out from our major remodel, and I have no complaints or concerns. His designs (three baths, back deck, bedroom updates, extensive electrical work and plumbing) were imaginative and highly functional. His landscaping crew did great work, as did the roofer, concrete mason installing a new pathway from driveway to front doors. Interior painting and exterior siding were executed professionally.”

“My wife and I purchased a home on Lake Norman 14 years ago knowing that one day we would turn it into something special. Over the course of owning the home we did a few little projects like remodeled the pool, resurfaced the docks, added a screen porch, built an outdoor kitchen and bar, etc.
When we finally got serious about doing our inside remodel we called Mike Shalvoy with Patrick Joseph Destinctive Homes. I meet Mike through a mutual friend that used Mike and his team to build their house. After meeting with Mike a couple times we felt like he understood our vision, goals and budget. Seven months later we couldn't be more happy with the results. We completely gutted the inside of our home down to the studs. We took out walls to open the floor plan, raised ceilings and created a huge kitchen and entertaining area. All new water lines, electrical, insulation, sheet rock, doors and the list goes on. We have a completely new home on the inside that looks amazing.”

“Brent and his father, Garland, built a new home for us in Mill House Place that was completed in 2012. From start to finish, they were easy to work with. They provided a realistic timeline and remained on track throughout the building process, were fair in pricing their work and never cut corners, always took time to talk with us about products that could used in building our home, and were very knowledgeable about every aspect of the construction process. An added bonus is that both Brent and Garland are accomplished craftsmen and expect the best from subcontractors. In fact, Brent is an amazing talent. He designed and built the library in our home and added numerous personal touches throughout. Our family and friends have been extremely impressed with the quality and creativity apparent in Brent's design and finish work--he far surpassed our expectations. Finally, both Brent and Garland are easy to talk to and have high ethical standards. They definitely are deserving of a 5 star rating--a very special company!”
TOPSIDER HOMES

“Topsider Homes earned our confidence in all aspects of its offerings: innovative design; soundness and efficacy of engineering; strength of the structure; quality of components; and, accessibility of service during construction. The construction blueprints, manuals and videos are clear and precise in every detail, which assures that builders, building inspectors and owners are provided all the information for project installation and inspections of the Topsider-provided prefabricated components and to assure effective tie-in of any necessary builder-provided components (such as decks, patios, entranceways and site preparation). Construction of any kind is always full of challenges as a consequence of the variability in the qualities of the builder and his subs. We spent months working with Topsider to locate a builder experienced in installing a Topsider or similar prefabricated home…but found that this was not necessary as the construction information provided by Topsider makes it possible for any competent builder and subs to properly erect the structure. Topsider people were always available and responsive to provide answers and solutions to construction questions and issues. Our contract was entered into in April 2016. The County Building Inspector issued his Certificate of Occupancy in March 2017. Since that time there have been no quality issues with Topsider materials or design. As regards design and engineering we are particularly pleased with the strength of the structure in dealing with frequent high winds and gusts at our mountain site…a consequence of all load bearing components being focused on the center steel beam which allows interior room design flexibility and utilization of ductless HVAC systems. We are particularly pleased that we included the optional Cupola. The R-39 hard insulation components make the home energy efficient and add strength and integrity of the overall structure. The space inside the pedestal accommodates and secures electric and water utilities. In our relatively cold climate it has been necessary to install electric heating “tapes” to water lines and drains extending from the pedestal, which is the responsibility of the builder, but which really should be noted in the blueprints and builder instructions. We are pleased with our Topsider home and recommend the company to others.”

“Rob and his crew are not only terrific craftsmen but problem solvers. We bought a foreclosure in a great neighborhood and while it needed light work i.e. the replacement of a broken deck, we wanted to enlarge it and add a covered room. We also "blew out" the ceiling on a second floor "bedroom" with no windows (ugh) and Rob incorporated an attic window into the room, put in a fan, lights, and created a gorgeous landing by the window which is now accessed via a "spiral" staircase that Rob ran straight against the wall to the landing. Extraordinary! We also replaced some crappy windows and added sliders to the deck. From help with picking out the stone to the floor tile, new carpet, paint colors and windows, replacing cracked granite counters, and finding cedar boards for the interior of the room, Rob and his wife Deb, an interior decorator, were there for us every step of the way. Rob also sourced amazingly gorgeous thin wire and sleek steel curved stanchions for the new deck. Any problem was resolved without issue. His crew is also terrific and completely trustworthy, holding my keys for several months. One also did some other odd jobs during his time off with Rob's permission. And Rob even came by on Christmas Day, no less, when we were desperate and discovered a different garden contractor had installed an outdoor faucet that had frozen and broken, and water that we pay for was pouring out with no way to shut it off while we had no water pressure in the rest of the house! (That guy didn't even call back until almost noon the following day!) So above and beyond.”
