Urban Kitchens and Baths, Inc.

This is my long overdue review. Phil designed a new kitchen for our 1950's bungalow in Austin, in 2018. It was installed in 2019, but I wanted us to live with it awhile before writing a review. Everyone loves the new, but do they love it after they've been in it long enough to notice the problems? I do. I love it more as time passes. We told Phil it was an age-in-place kitchen. We don't need that functionality quite yet, but it is open, airy, and everything is easy to get to. The cabinets are well placed and none of them conflict with another. The counters are located where you need them so that you don't have to cart your ingredients or utensils around, and there are outlets within reach of all my small appliance cords. The large kitchen appliances are much more convenient to both the cook and the rest of the household. My husband is much happier when he's cooking since no one walks passed the stove to get to the sink or fridge now. Superlative rating for the lighting. I thought I would hate the 3000K LED lighting in the ceiling, but I was wrong. It's bright when we need it, and not some weird color of light that drives me crazy. I knew I would like the under cabinet lighting, and it has lived up to my expectations; bright light on your work space, or low-level lighting that doesn't interfere while watching the TV in the adjoining living room. All of it is on dimmers. The enlarged windows bring the outside in. I watch birds at the feeder while I drink my morning coffee. The laundry area I insisted we include, rather than build a lean-to, is discrete enough to not feel like you're doing laundry in the kitchen. Another reason I give Urban Kitchens and Baths 5 stars is that Phil listened. When we really wanted changes he made changes, but he always talked to me enough to know whether it was fear of change or a valid reason. Note that I didn't use the term 'argued', because he didn't. He just talked. Changes were not free, but that was also talked about beforehand. Now if I can ever get the pictures uploaded...

We really enjoyed working with Phil and Patti. Everything turned out just beautiful! The kitchen is very easy to work in, and is great for big families.

We looked at the big box stores, and and were disappointed with the process, and product. We contacted. Phil and Patti at Urban Kitchens, and their professionalism was like night and day above the rest. The product is so much better, and Phil was very professional. It was a pleasure to work with the Rudick's for my Kitchen remodel. They did a fantastic job in redesigning the layout and flow of my kitchen. The installation of the cabinets was top notch. They came out during the installation of the new cabinets to make sure everything was going smoothly and to make any adjustments. I would highly recommend them for remodel projects.

Phil has completed 5 remodel designs at 3 different residences I have owned over the last 15 years. The most recent having been completed this year. His vision amazes as each project has exceeded my expectations in accomplishing the goals presented to him. During the construction he has provided support to assure that the design detail he intended is accomplished and the cabinets he specified meet approval. I recommend Phil without hesitation as the design professional to represent any remodel challenge and deliver results that will amaze.

My wife hired Phil to design our kitchen remodel. Nice person. We paid him the $2,500 down payment that was to go toward the purchase of the cabinets. We were majorly disappointed to find that Phil uses a pencil to generate the drawings rather than computer CAD software. Any change or modification required "time" to redraw plus many details were not shown on the drawing that would automatically be there using a computer. Since he charges hourly, that mattered. The only digital version of the drawings were cell phone photographs. After the preliminary drawings, we decided not to use Urban Kitchens and Baths, Inc due to our budget constraints. Yet when all was said and done, Phil took our $2,500 with no partial refund or communication.

After struggling for almost two years to envision a better design for our kitchen, and thinking very seriously about moving vs remodeling, we finally decided to meet with Phil Rudick of Urban Kitchens and Baths for some professional help. Within ten minutes, he suggested a layout that would make much better use of the available space. After asking a lot of questions about how we cooked together, what we liked and didn't like about the existing kitchen, and what we were hoping to get from the new one, he laid out a functional and beautiful design that greatly increased our storage and counter surfaces, created an island with prep and dining space, all with enough room for both of us to cook together. The cabinet design was very thoughtful, providing practical storage for a wide variety of items, and making great use of the available space. Phil also designed our new lighting plan. The transformation of the space has been amazing - going from cramped, inefficient, and dark to light, bright, well-organized, efficient and beautiful. In addition to providing the design and the cabinets, Phil recommended Mike Rapovich of Austin Custom Remodeling for our General Contractor. Mike, Tim, Curtis and the rest of the ACR crew, as well as all of Mike's sub-contractors, were very professional, timely, and competent. They stayed on top of the job, were very detailed, did great work, and kept our house very tidy during the entire process. Phil and Mike have worked together for decades and work very well together - they are both very detailed and conscientious. Phil also recommended the granite yard and granite fabricator that we used, provided consultation on our lighting plan, as well as helped with our coordination of cabinet, trim, wall and ceiling colors, cabinet hardware, flooring, back splash tile, and granite. Overall, we love how our new kitchen looks and lives - it is now the center and centerpiece of our home!

Phil listened carefully and gave us what we wanted. Quality work and very good communication. He was always reachable and gave us accurate estimates of time and money. No unwelcome surprises.

I have only the highest praise for Phil Rudick at Urban Kitchens and Baths. He is genius at using the constraints of a space to create get the maximum usage out of it while still creating the desired look and feel. I have hired him for three remodeling jobs at my house. The first was my guest bathroom. It was an odd shape and I had a very specific modern look I was going for. He and I worked well together to design the perfect bathroom. I also hired him for my bar remodel. Again, he worked with me on the look and functionality and we came up with a beautiful space. Our last job was a custom entertainment cabinet in our study. With limited space and very specific requirements, he was able to design and execute the perfect solution. I will use him when the time comes to redo my master bath and always recommend him to friends. His crew is friendly and top notch.

We contacted Urban Kitchens to design our kitchen and utility room remodel. The original space was dated and limited our ability to entertain. We were looking for an open plan that would allow us to host a large number of people. Phil did a great job of communicating the concept and delivering on a kitchen design that is the realization of a dream.
