Established in 2001, Tallwood Design is located in the beautiful lakes area of central Maine. The key to Tallwood Designs success is Karen McPhedrans dedication to personal service. She built on a foundation of honesty, integrity, and respect to find unique and personal design solutions for her clients. All aspects of the design process are handled personally; including space planning, project and construction management, designing kitchen and baths spaces, selecting tile, countertops, furniture design/procurement, creative lighting options, window treatments, paint color and even selecting and buying art. Karen strives to realize the vision of each client to reflect their individual needs and preferences by creating an environment they will always love to come home to. Karen has been delightful to work with! She helped us renovate a camp on the lake to a year round home- at the same time helping us retain the warmth of our 25 year old camp. Karen is very creative. She is an expert in blending functionality with beautiful space. We so appreciate her ability listen to our needs and her artful way of presenting new ideas that were perfect for our space. She has strong relationships with her contractors and subcontractors. Their experience, skills and attention to details are extraordinary and we particularly appreciated their ongoing communication throughout the entire project. Karen is very professional. She is organized, has a vast extent of experience and knowledge and she enjoys what she does. There was no problem that we could not figure out! We love her versatility and flexibility. Working with Karen was a pleasure and her patience with my wife and I was great. Her ability to visualize colors and help us design and remodel a kitchen and bath in our 200 year old farm house was extremely helpful. We won't touch a paint brush now until we check in with her to see if we are doing the right thing.

Karen has helped me twice with sticky design issues. The first was finding the right color paints for the first floor of my house where the woodwork is dominant and easily out of balance. More recently, when asked to review a plan for renovating a small galley kitchen out of state, she gave me timely, knowledgeable, and creative ideas for its improvement. Thanks, Karen!!!!!

I worked with Karen for the complete renovation of our kitchen. I would highly recommend utilizing Karen's expertise if you have a big job and want not only the design advice, but also someone who can manage a job on budget and on schedule while you are away. Karen and I spent the right amount of time between meetings and exchanging notes to come up with the look I wanted. I never felt that she was imposing her own preferences and also felt she would be flexible doing more or less, depending on what I wanted. Just as good, she came up with an estimate, used contractors she has experience/relationships with and managed everything while we were away. I felt, if anything, she was even more picky than I in making sure the final work was perfect.

Karen is fantastic! Creative, organized, and punctual. She helped us build our home in 2008 and worked with us on details such as floor plan layout, choosing paint colors, hiring a painter, and choosing furniture. She helped us again in 2014 when we decided to do a bit of remodeling and needed help with countertop, light fixture, and dining table choices. Karen has always helped by mediating when my husband and I had differing opinions. She has also become a good friend!

Karen is both meticulous and thorough in her planning and designs and she has a unique ability to select the proper materials for the required applications. I'm extremely pleased with the results of my bathroom remodel. Tall wood Design made this project so easy by coming up with great recommendations for flooring, shower tiles, counter tops, and lighting. My designer Karen was fabulous! She was very knowledgeable about products and where to purchase from the best vendors and installers. Karen handled coordinating each stage of the project and stayed on budget.
