Sujatha Sukumaran

The HGTV addicts that we are, my husband and I had a wild idea to buy a house that would need a lot of TLC. We had many contractors walk through but it soon became clear to us that we needed a local Joanna Gaines to help us. Sujatha did a walk around with us and was very generous with sharing her ideas and the process involved. It became very obvious from the onset that she knows the industry very well, has great contacts and is meticulous about her work. On top of all this, she and the team are very pleasant, fun, and easy to work with. We are still in constant disbelief at how our spaces turned up in terms of design, furnishings and style.

Sujatha is incredible. I am a single mom moving from a 800 sq ft condo to a 3000+ sq ft single family home in Birmingham and was absolutely clueless with where to start in terms of buying furniture, kitchen/bathroom tiles, paint colors, lighting (soft white, bright white, day light who knew there were so many??) and creating a functional space to live in. She and her FYM team turned my empty space in to a stylish and practical home. Sujatha is incredibly responsive and something that I value a lot is that she made me feel like family. Thank you for staying within my budget. People are shocked every time they enter my home. I am truly proud to own a FYM home.

First and foremost, I have to say that Sujatha is the most attentive and kind person I have ever met. I was nervous at first when seeking out a designer for my place because this is my first real place and I just wanted it to be comfortable and fit me. I looked online at a few designers but after talking to Sujatha for just about 5 minutes, I knew I didn't have to look any further. She and I connected right away and I felt like she actually wanted to get to know me and my style. She paid attention to every single thing I said and brought my space to life while staying in a specific budget. She worked around my extremely busy work schedule by even coming over to take measurements and complete staging in the late evenings and weekend. I love my place and I look forward to going home after long stressful days of work. I feel so happy every time I walk in. Sujatha made my place look so cute and really helped in picking out pieces that fit well in my place as it is a bit smaller being an apartment town home. The staging was the best part because I had described to her that I wanted my place to feel modern yet cozy and spacious. She literally placed every piece of furniture perfectly. Sujatha has a natural and amazing talent in not only the interior design aspect but she gives off the most sophisticated and positive vibes with everything she does. Her style is so elegant but her genuine interest in helping people is what I love the most. I will be calling Sujatha to help me again when I purchase a home in a few years and I have already recommended her to many family members and friends. Gosh I was referred to Sue by my realtor. I am a first time home owner, and know nothing of fixing up a house! Sue helped me fix it up and design my entire home on a good budget. I was super excited to see how it turned out! My place is what she calls a "minimalist chic" look :) I almost forgot, as a part of surprise factor, she also created a custom painting that goes with my decor!! I love her design and painting! Thanks Sue!

We spoke with many designers and we decided to go with Sujatha because she was down to earth, easy to talk to, and she explained everything in a way we understood. She remembered everything we had mentioned in the walk-through, and incorporated it in a way that surprised us. In addition, she gave us a spot-on budget and completed the project within budget and on schedule! (For this - we are truly grateful to her, very happy and surprised as well because we've heard from others often that the cost and time of project will most definitely be higher than the estimation.) We felt at ease during the entire project. We definitely recommend her!

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Sujatha and her FYM team. She really took the time upfront to understand my style, needs and vision and provided great feedback and ideas that I would never have thought of! What I really love is the amount of time and careful consideration she puts into her decisions as if she's doing the work for her own home. She also has great resources when it comes to contractors and custom furniture manufacturers. I recommend Sujatha to everyone and would give her more than 5 stars if I could!

Su has helped transform my home into a place my friends are so jealous of! She really gets to know you personally and is always looking for ways to bring my personality in to her designs. The personal connection between the owner and the design space seems to be of utmost importance to her. Phone calls with her are so much fun and she has a great knack of taking the stress out of any project. I never thought I'll have a house that I only see in magazines. Now thanks to Su, I have one!
