Lisa McLaughlin launched State Street Design in 2007 after furnishing a modern, airy, four-story Brooklyn townhouse for her family, and helping a close friend renovate an early 1900's farmhouse in upstate New York. She transformed the dark, cramped century old house into a loft-like retreat flooded with light. McLaughlin’s previous jobs, which honed her aesthetic, were perfect preparation. She served as Accessories Divisional Merchandise Manager and Buyer at Bergdorf Goodman (1985-1991) and founded and ran Metropolitan Design Group (1991-1999), a luxury fashion and home accessory agency. McLaughlin's extensive interior design portfolio now ranges from the upstate farmhouse to a number of hi-rise condominiums and prewar apartments in Manhattan and Brooklyn. In her signature interiors, a subtle palette of neutrals brings unity to comfortable, functional furnishings with clean lines. Rooms are uncluttered, yet there's always a supply of eye-catching textures and the occasional pop of color, so that the client's own personality comes through.
