Simply put...Lisa is the best professional that we have ever worked with! Lisa has worked with us on numerous projects for a couple of homes over the past 20 years. If my review of Lisa was limited to one sentence it would be, “Lisa was the designer, general contractor and independent voice that helped my wife and I navigate the complex and emotional journey attached to a gut renovation of a 130-year old brownstone.” It is important to have the backstory of the project to give perspective on the critical role Lisa played in transforming an empty six-family brownstone into the first brownstone to sell for over $4MM in all of Harlem, NY. My wife and I purchased the brownstone in early 2008 and we involved Lisa from the very beginning of what ended up being a twenty month project. A full gut renovation was required and it was quickly apparent that we were in way over our heads in trying to manage such a massive project. Our passion to transform a rundown property into an amazing single family home blinded us from the huge time commitment required to make the hundreds of decisions included in a renovation project. Lisa added specific and measurable value from that moment of panic to the day we moved into the finished house. In the spirit of “the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time”, Lisa took the time to define the project in stages that we could digest and understand. She provided a monthly timeline that integrated everything from managing the contractor and his sub-contractors, to the lighting plan, to the paint schedule and decision deadlines for appliances, cabinetry, hardware, light fixtures, etc. Being able to see a clearly defined project plan on paper gave us comfort that we could complete this project on time and on budget. Lisa is action oriented, accountable and trustworthy. These traits are critical in a designer that you have engaged to manage the single largest investment in your life. Lisa understands that big projects consume money and time. She understands the value of each and works hard to manage the defined budgets. Lisa was not just the designer on the project. Lisa became a partner with my wife and me on the project. Looking back…having Lisa as a partner is why the finished project was so amazing.

As a single person and homeowner, I have lived in my townhouse for 18 years and have worked with Lisa from move-in day. She has made my home a place where my friends and guests always say that they "love my home best" and feel very comfortable here. My home exudes warmth and hospitality; the two main ingredients that I specified were brought out thoughtfully and beautifully. Lisa's design process is meticulous, well thought out and organized. She is always looking ahead to the next "layer" of detail and is proactive without your having to ask. She has a voluminous knowledge of so many types of styles that it is always fun to mix things up when I want to be playful and create a unique look. My rooms flow gracefully because of careful finish and design details but they never look overdecorated. Everyone should be so lucky as to have such a dedicated, professional and personable designer.

I have been working with Lisa Stone for over ten years and we have shared a great relationship on all of the projects she has done for us. Lisa has helped us transform our 1930's era home over the past ten years, starting with our master bedroom and bathroom and moving on to our children's bathroom, my husband's study, our family room, living room and most recently, our kitchen and home office. Lisa has a unique ability to envision a project and work within a client's style and budget, never imposing her taste on something if that is not the direction you want to go. She also is extremely detail oriented and is on top of every aspect of a project, making sure everything is coordinated, on time and done right -- from electricians to painters and other sub contractors. My husband and I have loved working with Lisa and absolutely love everything she has done in our home.

Even though Lisa’s beautiful photos speak for themselves, there are other components of the room design process that are equally important as the end result. First of all, when two partners/homeowners have their individual tastes and opinions, Lisa has the unique ability to mediate and generate consensus. It was important to us that the end result to be loved and enjoyed by both my husband and myself. Second, the designs she has created for us have a timeless quality. Over the past 10 years, the 6 rooms that Lisa was able to design for us are just as beautiful, functional and relevant today as they were on the day of installation. These two points in addition to her attention to detail and her impeccable eye have given us rooms that we LOVE!

Lisa has worked on two major projects for us involving two different homes. First and foremost she has a gifted sense of spatial awareness coupled with a vast knowledge base in the design field. She is much more than just a designer though. Lisa is able to understand and also oversee a project from the architectural/structural phase through the construction phase and all the way down to the finest detail of design. She is incredibly organized, detail oriented and 100% focused on your project once she has taken it on. Lisa will work on your behalf to be sure that every aspect of the project and every contributor to it is held to the highest standards. She is artistic, highly creative and yet linear in her thinking.
