The Bay Area's Interior Designer for Honest, Uncommon, Design

Lane McNab’s interiors combine elegance and beauty with charm and livability. Honest, understated, style is the hallmark of her designs. This San Francisco Bay Area entrepreneur brings experience, a love of travel, and a passion for the power of transformation to her grounded and elegant interiors. After living in American cities rich in architectural heritage ignited a passion for design, Lane took the first of numerous trips abroad and studied culture, language, art, and historical architecture. During this time, she worked closely for several years on numerous projects with a local design and construction firm as a designer and assistant project manager learning invaluable hands-on training and augmenting her knowledge and savvy of the design and construction process. Travels and studies abroad include London, Oxford, Vienna, Prague, Rome, Milan, Kyoto, Berlin, Athens, Paris, Geneva, Edinburgh, and Dublin. A move to Berkeley in 2008 added yet another city with an architectural pedigree to her growing list of cities to fall in love with. Lane started her own firm in 2010 and now manages a team under Lane McNab Interiors. Having cultivated relationships with some of the best contractors, sub-contractors, craftspeople, and artisans in the Bay Area and with knowledge of all levels of the the design process, Lane gives her clients a completely rewarding experience. Lane also has extensive understanding of how to create custom and semi-custom pieces to give each client a personal, one-of-a-kind result. Lane McNab Interiors brings this sensibility to clients throughout California whether through first and second residences, boutique retail, or full home interiors. Lane McNab Interiors is currently looking for whole house or large scale renovations throughout the greater Bay Area.

We have worked with Lane for a couple of years now and would highly recommend her! She is not only incredibly skilled at interior design (color, design, layout, floors, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, furniture) but is an absolute pleasure to work with. I was initially wary about working with an interior designer, and now I don't know how we could have remodeled our home without her and her team's help and guidance. I was concerned that she might not be as comfortable with our style (a little more traditional), but she is, is so easy to talk to, and has helped us to elevate our vision beyond what I ever could have accomplished on my own. For the most part, every choice has been spot on, and in those rare instances where it has perhaps been slightly less than was expected, Lane is the first one to fix it. She is a problem solver and detail-oriented. We have turned to her countless times to help us solve remodeling questions, and she always does so beautifully.

Lane is fantastic! I expected that she would advise us on this or that piece of furniture, but she reimagined our entire space: painting, window treatments, color combinations, lighting, and so on. We had been thinking small but Lane helped us think big. She also gave us some excellent recommendations on vendors that fit our style. Prior to Lane, I couldn't think outside of Crate and Barrel, etc. Now I have an arsenal of high-quality vendors to choose from. Lane also helped us consider how we could integrate our current pieces without breaking the bank. In sum, she completely changed the way we think about our home, and we're excited to start implementing her recommendations.

I have used Lane and team to almost fully remodel my 1908 Victorian Berkeley home. That wasn't the plan starting out -- it was just a small bathroom project but they are so great to work with it was hard to stop! Her ideas/designs were right on every time, clearly fitting our personal style, budget and house style. She always presents multiple options taking into consideration lead times, cost and durability but never shy's away from giving you her honest opinion which also takes into consideration what will work best for you -- think lots of kids, pets, elderly parents, etc. Things you wouldn't even think about she does and most the headaches of the remodel she manages on your behalf. Things I didn't even think about like inspecting items on receipt, managing returns, defects and issues months after completion, and always being there to help you figure out how best to use and maintain your new house so that it stays beautiful for years to come. Her connections with local, sustainable and artisan home product providers not only means you get amazing products with amazing quality, it can sometimes get you to the front of the manufacturing line when long lead times begin to threaten schedules. Her talents are not limited to any given room (I've done a bathroom, laundry room, kitchen, formal dining room and back entry with them) nor do they stop with the inside of the house. Her team designed our front fence and backyard outdoor kitchen too! If there was anything left to do in our house I would certainly use her again.

Lane came into our 100 year old, dark home which we had attempted to decorate ourselves over the years and worked with us to create a light, inviting, environment for our family. She was very patient with us since this was a big change for us. She walked us through all of our questions and listened to our concerns. We had her redo our entire downstairs and we really couldn't be more pleased. She also got high marks from our contractor for her work and the ease of working with her.

Lane McNab is a professional. I have worked with her for almost 15 years. She is clear sited about how to reconfigure spaces so that they are both more efficient as well as more fluid. She can see colors and shapes coming together harmoniously. She is extremely resourceful and very easy to work with. Her business has grown quite naturally out of a pure love for design and balance. We are in the middle of a two-phase project with Lane McNab and have been very happy with both her design aesthetic and her project execution so far. Based on a viewing of our home and a quick briefing on our tastes, Lane quickly and intuitively grasped what we were looking for and was able to articulate a general design concept on the spot. She and her staff then came back to us with a beautiful and comprehensive design within an impressively short period of time. Lane and her staff are very organized. Their visual presentation of ideas is clear and professional, and they are reliable when it comes to communication and scheduling. The execution of the first phase of our project went very smoothly and was completed on schedule. This process took place while we were out of town, which was very convenient. Lane and her staff interacted with contractors, kept track of progress, managed delivery of furniture, etc. all with fairly minimal need to communicate with us while we were traveling. Thanks, Lane and staff!

We just finished working on our living room/dining room refresh with Lane. It was our second project with her, and just like the first, we are really pleased with the result. I think one of Lane's strengths is building interest and personality through color, fabrics and textures -- and finding the right mix of these. Once we had all of the major pieces in place, she spent a couple of hours styling the room, and it was a huge wow when we came home. Above all, Lane is so personable, open to suggestion, and creative with the quirks of older houses.

Teak Me Home

We have partnered with Lane at Urban Orchard Interiors on numerous projects she has designed for clients. From a custom media cabinet and end tables handcrafted out of reclaimed doug fir, reclaimed teak dressers, to a reclaimed white oak dining room table and bed frame. Lane passionately works with her clients to create beautiful spaces with an emphasis on the use of sustainable materials. Highly recommend!
