Kathy rang me offering to help with a bathroom renovation. I was so impressed with her that I also decided to renovate my kitchen and create a powder room. Kathy organized the whole process. All that was required of me was to choose the inclusions. With her experience, she presented amazing options which I would never have thought of. I was able to choose everything without leaving my home. On a couple of occasions I did not agree with Kathy's suggestions. She persevered, and I am so glad she didn't give up on me. I have told her many times since, that she was right. I am absolutely thrilled with my renovation and I can honestly say that I have Kathy to thank for this worry free wonderful outcome.

When we moved into a heritage-listed terrace, we knew we needed help to make it amazing. And we were lucky enough to find Kathy! She listened to our needs, understood our brief, and worked within our budget. One of her many superpowers is sourcing incredible vintage/antique items and getting them restored to their former glory, not to mention her outstanding recommendations around colour and texture. Like many families, we are busy and time-poor and Kathy made the design process easy for us, carefully curating her recommendations. Kathy was also great at connecting us with good tradespeople, our builder, an excellent and well-priced joiner, and many other trades/suppliers. If there was anything to criticise, it would be a couple of mis-measurements that led to having to replace items that we'd ordered, but these were minor in the scheme of things. Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kathy and she would definitely be our first port of call for future design advice!

Kathy’s designs and advice were fantastic - we love our new bathrooms! She was very responsive, and also arranged a builder (who was also fantastic) & tradespeople, organised ordering fixtures, and generally made the whole process so much easier. We are also nearing the end of a second project designed by Kathy of updating our back doors and patio. The changes have made a huge difference to the indoors as well as outdoors, and we’re very happy with how things have turned out. We highly recommend Kathy.

Kathy recently helped us to choose the colour scheme for our exterior. And she came up trumps. Many of our neighbours have complimented us on our choice of colours. Last year Kathy helped us with our interior colour scheme and again she was spot on. Choosing colours is a harrowing process with literally thousands of colours/shades to choose from. And you can’t afford to get it wrong as we have done in the past. Having someone with Kathy’s taste and expertise to help us has been a godsend and I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Kathy really helped us bring our vision to life and kept us on track. She was always available for questions and worked with us in a collaborative capacity taking into account our taste and ideas. Kathy was always honest when she felt like something wouldn't work and we are really happy with the resulting work. Kathy McKinnon came to the rescue when we were seeking an interiors professional to help us select both interior and exterior paint colours for our Federation home. When my Painter suggested I meet with a Colour Consultant/Interior Decorator to discuss colours my reply was "I don't need anyone to help with colours, I know what I want!" Well wasn't I WRONG! After a discussion over the phone regarding our property and what I was looking to achieve, Kathy came out to our Reno Site, she had already selected a few colours and finishes, which I loved and have decided to go with. Our strata committee for four strata scheme buildings in Pyrmont engaged the services of Kathy on two separate projects. Kathy assisted us with an update of the colour schemes for our early 80s buildings. This was no easy task as the exteriors and common property interiors were covered in mission browns and outdated cream and peach colours and we required Kathy to work with some outdated fixtures and fittings too. This proved no issue for Kathy. Kathy made the task so easy for us and we could not be more pleased with the results. She was professional, personable and down to earth and really listed to what we wanted and our vision. Kathy showed us that she is a very talented colourist in her natural ability to identify the right colour scheme for the building, and the suburb of Pyrmont. She did her homework and was prepared before she came to site - and showed us an array of amazing colour palettes that we would never had considered using had it not been for Kathy. What we ended up picking at the recommendation of Kathy was perfect. I was particularly happy with her colour picks for the internal corridors. The walls, previously outdated creams with multicoloured featured walls were transformed into elegant, sophisticated spaces and beautiful spaces. Kathy even managed to make the old tiles in the corridors and the railings look amazing by way of the colour scheme she recommended. I would have no hesitation in recommending Kathy for any interior decorating or colour consulting job. She offers a unique perspective - head above shoulders than the other designers out there.

The project is the first of a major refurbis

With dramatic chandeliers and Italian vera wall lights, contemporary paint detailing and beautiful linen gauze curtains, Kathy brought a dreary and dated room at Duntryleague in Orange to life. She enhanced the architectural details and the beautiful views over the golf course to make the elegant Dalton Dinning room airy and comfortable with Louis XIV upholstered balloon back chairs and configurable oak tables. It is now quite an experience to dine in this magnificent room by day or night.

High recommended! Kathy worked with me first years ago in project managing and styling my heritage listed, sandstone terrace home. The style was more Georgian with modern features that would suit a heritage home. I went with Kathy after speaking to several interior designers as she had a great sense of style as well as a great "get things done" attitude that really appealed to me. She was also able to work towards any budget and could recommend tradesmen with appropriate qualifications to work on heritage homes. She really took the stress out of a home renovating project and made the experience really enjoyable for me. I am so happy with the results. My home is truly a city oasis. More recently when I needed help styling a holiday retreat, I reached out to Kathy again. This time the style was farmhouse / rustic for a mountains retreat. Again she designed and project managed the various renovations and styled the home. I had a lot of fun again visiting all sorts of places choosing furniture and additions for the home and am very happy with the results. As well as enjoying all the compliments from visitors! I would not hesitate to recommend Kathy and circumstances permitting, I look forward to working with Kathy again in the future.

Absolutely perfect communication mixed with hitting the brief spot on makes a very high recommendation of mine. I had a plan in my head but it was very disjointed, Kathy was able to break it down and make sure the house flowed more which was exactly what I wanted and she picked out some amazing pieces which I went for and am super happy with. Her use of mixed metals really gave my place an industrial but luxury feel and her direction with the outdoor are has my friends thinking I live in a hotel!

I have known Kathy as a friend for some years. However, if I needed advice on colours for my old house or design for my business, Kathy was the first person I would ask, I highly respected her advice and still do. So it was with great pleasure, I was able to hire her services when I bought a terrace house in the knowledge that the kitchen needed expanding and completely ripping out the old to put in the new. I am a chef and knew what I wanted but was unable to put it to paper for a clear design. I needed a working kitchen that would look to the future, be contemporary, innovative, fitted with a terrace house and could be a work horse. Kathy designed my dream kitchen, who would have thought I would have black 'jaguar' walls, a stunning Neolith island. The kitchen had to be extended, the back wall knocked out and J beams fitted, Kathy wanted clean lines to the outside. A builder was required, Kathy took care of this as I was travelling, she managed my site, plumbers, electricians, kitchen installers and the like whenever I travelled. . We also installed an appliance cupboard (Kath's idea) it has a stainless steel bench top which allows me to work any appliance from there, rather than bringing them out to the kitchen top. She was easy to work with, gave great suggestions if I was not sure, more importantly she listened and followed my brief. The kitchen is a very clever design for a small area, it ticked all my requirements and more. My perfect kitchen, thank you Kathy.

I moved into an apartment in Paddington after living in aTuscan farmhouse for 42 years . I had an important library to house .Kathy came up with a brilliant solution : build it in the wide entrance hall . The revolving library ladder meant that practically all the books fitted in . The base of the shelves are closed drawers to hold the DVD and CD collection . Elegant doors with bronze door knobs in keeping with the style of the apartment . The carpenter was very efficient ,reasonably priced and great attention to detail . Kathy made sure the skirting board matched the original of the rest of the apartment . Kathy is a great organiser and has a keen eye .Re-Upholstering the dining chairs , she was straight onto the right person . I was about to compromise on the colour but Kathy located the right colour . It could have been a disaster . Thanks Kathy for your taste and guidance .

Kathy designed a fabulous outdoor kitchen and created a look that complemented the existing outdoor area. She helped us manage the project and navigate a few complications with installing an extremely heavy pizza oven and making sure that the structure was able to withstand it. The burnt timber finish on the joinery and Neolith stone that she recommended look amazing and have been complimented on by everyone!

I have twice used Kathy McKinnon for design advice in my home. On the first occasion I needed help with my lounge room. I had recovered some couches but could not find fabric for the scatter cushions to pull the room together. Kathy came up with two options of three fabrics each. We are very happy with the option we chose. She also sourced a limestone plinth for a dead corner. More recently Kathy advised us on paint colours for our front door and pergolas. Again, she gave us a couple of options. Her preferred suggestion was a colour we would never have thought of. It is now painted and looks fantaastic. Kathy, thank you for your wonderful expertise.

Kathy has a wonderful eye and imagination and is such a pleasure to work with. She came to my Tamarama beach house and quickly came up with some ingenious lighting ideas which quite frankly are some of my favourite features of this newly invented heritage P and O home! From the moment I spoke to Kathy from Kathy McKinnon interiors I knew I'd found the right person, her Ideas for decorating my small apartment in Elizabeth got me excited. I wanted a minimalist clean aesthetic, but not clinical and soulless. What she delivered was beyond what I could have thought up myself. I love it!! She has a great sense of space and so can straddle the divide between interior designer and architect and is also able to provide great contacts for other professionals needed for a project.
