At henhouse, we are passionate about quality design and craftsmanship. Over the past 16 years our team has been creating beautiful and highly functional living spaces along with our own line of custom handcrafted furniture. We hold our work to the highest quality of standards and work collaboratively with our clients to ensure the best results. With a background in fine art and design, owner Sappho Griffin launched Henhouse in 2001 as a retail shop and studio in Halifax’s historic Hydrostone Market. The shop showcased Sappho’s work in custom furniture and specialty antique paint finishing. It also included a uniquely curated selection of antiques and home decor items. The business grew to include custom handcrafted kitchens and interior design services. Since closing the retail outlet in 2013, Sappho’s time is fully dedicated to whole home projects and interior renovations both large and small. Taking a fully integrated approach, she takes care to look at the “Big Picture” and works with a solid crew of reliable tradespeople on an ongoing basis. Since the beginning, Henhouse has been dedicated to quality, thoughtfulness and attention to detail - using natural materials, hand finishes, traditional joinery, and informed design choices, each project is individually considered. Whether you are looking for a complete kitchen design and renovation, a custom furniture piece, or re-decorating a room, Sappho and the Henhouse team take great care in understanding the individual needs and budgets of each client with the goal of achieving results that surpass the norm.
