On April 7, 2014 Mr. Mishra connected with my office. I provided a complimentary in home consultation and evaluation on April 10 yet was not engaged until May 23.
From May 27- June 10; 11 business days, our office provided:
1) A revised floor plan of the master suite, with elevations, lighting layout and material selections.
2) A revised layout for the stairwell space and a first and second floor modified floor plan for submission to his engineer for re-permitting with the city.
3) Several in person consultations, phone conferences and countless emails of design question and answers.
4) Several project site visits
This client was in crisis from the onset due to his own gross delays. This was a small project, in both size and revenue, for which my firm is fully capable; and being a designer for 17 years as a certified and licensed professional, I am clear as to my role and responsibilities. The project was a disaster and the homeowner was not willing to receive help and guidance, though we tried diligently.
It wasn't until after I terminated this agreement, due to coarse dialogue with myself and staff, accompanied by unrealistic demands, that I offered to refund the unused portion of a small 15 hour non-refundable retainer, as a means of good business practice. When the relationship ceased I learned of Mr. Mishra's similar encounters with other project professionals on his job. Apparently this is common place for him.
