We would rate Salamander Construction as "Top Notch". They are very professional but at the same time fun to have around. The carpenters are fabulous and very friendly as are the sub-contracters. They were always very conscious of our desires and always worked hard to meet them. They met with us numerous times to go over things and then gave a suggested list for us to go shopping. This was very helpful. We would certainly recommend them to anybody looking to start a construction project!!

Everyone always looks at me incredulously when I say "I love my contractor"! Apparently that never happens. Jed and his crew were top-notch and their timely and meticulous work truly fulfilled our dreams. We have a renovated home that is beautiful, energy-efficient, and full of heart. We hired Salamander Construction after interviewing several other construction companies and can wholeheartedly say it was the perfect choice for us. I believe they are one of the best builders in all of Addison and Chittenden counties for custom homes. We needed a builder that would listen, be flexible, and respect our design input and compatible abilities, and we found that and more in Jed and his team. I grew up with a father as a builder of high-end custom homes on the coast of Maine, and my husband and I have some design/build experience ourselves and we wanted to be involved in parts of the project. Knowing from our own business how difficult that kind of relationship can be, we were impressed with Jed's patience, as well as his ability to guide us through areas that were unfamiliar. His team are craftspeople, and the quality of their work was top-notch, delivered on schedule and at a reasonable price - a rare, and beautiful combination.

Salamander was flexible, detail-oriented, and very open-minded. We had several meetings to talk about the possibilities and scope of the project, and each time Salamander was open to new ideas, brought up possibilities that we hadn't considered, and were flexible and fun to work with. It was such a nice change to work WITH a builder, not be told what to do or have a one-way conversation - it felt like together we figured out the best, most economical use of the space and were given options for best most efficient plans, with price points and thoughtful recommendations. The work started on time, finished early and stayed within the agreed-upon budget, and was done incredibly well. In short, we will call Salamander for all future projects!

We have done three projects with Jed over nine years. A waterfront pavilion, a three car garage and a new home (approx 2800 sq ft) on the lake in 2013. An architect developed the plans and worked with Jed long distance, they worked together perfectly, the architect very pleased with Jed's quality and attention to detail. Total construction from demolishing the old structure until we moved in was 9 months. The project was on schedule and on budget. We have been in the house three years, with no structural or construction problems. The quality of the construction, the Sheetrock, wood flooring, the trim work, the alignment of electrical boxes and fixtures is excellent. We recommend Jed without hesitation.

I hired Jed Malcolm's Salamander Construction to do work at my two properties on Lake Dunmore near Middlebury. One job involved totally completing an entire unfinished floor, and he did an outstanding job. The other job was even more spectacular. He took what was really a horribly run down cottage, gutted it, and turned it into a truly lovely vacation home. Everything had to be done - kitchen, bathroom, walls removed, windows replaced, floors, relocating windows and exterior door, and more. Jed has my very highest praise for two jobs very well done!

Salamander Construction built a custome timber frame lake house for my firm near Middlrbury, Vermont. Their work was exemplary with every complicated detail built to perfection. Photographs of this custom home may be found throughout the Houzz website. I wish we could have Jed and his crew build every project coming off the boards of my office from now on!

I highly recommend Salamander Construction Inc. for work on your home! They are a friendly and professional construction crew. They put a screened-in porch and outside deck onto our house and it came out just as we had hoped, if not better! We had a few specific requests like wanting a hanging chair and they were great about reinforcing the rafter that it would hang from. They were also terrific about helping us find the right stain for the ceiling which proved to be more difficult than we anticipated. They were really helpful advising us through the process and helping us achieve the look we wanted. I was most impressed with their attention to detail when it came to putting up the screen siding for the porch. They were meticulous in measuring and constructing the screen frames and in the end, it all fit together beautifully and gave the porch a sleek, impressive look. We will definitely be using them for our future home improvements.

Salamander Construction remodeled a circa 1940's camp for us at Lake Dunmore, Vermont. I highly recommend them. They did an excellent job in a design/build capacity. They took a seasonal cabin and transformed it into a 4 bedroom, 2 bath 4 season home, new kitchen, new bathrooms, new electric. The home blends perfectly with the surroundings. It is now so well insulated that we can keep it very livable with just a couple of logs in the wood stove. Jed and his workers are all very professional- and they left the property in excellent condition. Jed currently acts as my property manager and prepares the property when we want to visit in the winter.
