Nuvo Builders

We used Nuvo twice for remodeling. Strong recommend. They are honest and have high standards. Remodeled kitchens and bathrooms with them.

I am a 20 year resident of the Houston Heights. I have recently (October 2019) used Nuvo Builders for what must now be the sixth time. I have become sold on Nuvo for the quality of their work, their thoroughness and reasonable cost. When they quote a job, they quote all of the work, leaving nothing that is visible for later, not included, added cost. They also work with me on just how far I want them to go with the work, and give me their recommendations. I have used Nuvo Builders for major house restoration work, such as for preparing my mother’s home on 16th Street for sale in 2015. I have used them most frequently for medium size repairs to my home on 16th Street, following storm related damage, and for upkeep and general improvement projects. I go back to Nuvo, because they have treated me fairly, are reliable and produce excellent results. The workmen they bring to the job know what they are doing.

My husband Trey and I decided to to an extensive home remodel in late 2015. We decided to take our 1200 sq ft one story, 2 BR; 1.5 BA bungalow, and turn it into a 2200 sq ft, two story 3 BR; 2.5 BA one. We spent most of 2016 working with an architect and then interviewing potential builders, moving into the build process in 2017. Of all the builders we interviewed and throughout the interview process, Nuvo was not only the most thorough in their pre-bid but also the most responsive when we had questions. Throughout the remodel process, we found David (the owner and lead on our project) to be quite detail oriented and meticulous when it came to making sure they were building according to our preference. He did not cut corners -- one example we noted was that he had the flooring vendor redo the floors 3 times (no additional cost to us) because he wasn't quite satisfied with them prior to our move in. He was always on time for appointments and true to his word whenever he promised to check into something for us or in getting something done promptly for the project. For the most part, even with Hurricane Harvey happening in the middle of our remodel, they only finished about 2 months after their initial estimated time projection (our entire project took about 10 months to complete). I would recommend that potential clients be willing to proactively stay on top of when orders will need to be placed and selections need to be made. Nuvo provided a rough outline of when things would need to be ready at the beginning, but my husband was often checking in with their office support, Sandra, to make sure nothing was being held up on our end throughout the process as far as selections (tile, lighting, etc) and then ordering. David and his crew also went above and beyond once we were back into our home when it came to completion of the punch list items and making sure all was completely ready. He and his crew were always prompt to return and courteous whenever we found something that hadn't quite been installed right or needed fixing. Even now, almost 5 or 6 months after move in, David still comes by when we've come across potential issues. For example, our front and back doors had defects that affected each keeping their stain color - issues that didn't emerge until after the project ended. David stayed on top of this issue -even with set backs from the vendor - and had our new doors in a couple months after the project ended. We had our fair share of frustrations with the process overall - I don't think any remodel can happen without them -- but overall, we felt that Nuvo addressed those to the best of their ability and we were highly satisfied with their work and would recommend their services. Turns out I had a drainage problem that was decades old: ponding water under the house. No airflow. Harvey was the final straw. Nuvo suggested using one of their subs, Blue Water Irrigation, to design and install new drainage lines on the rear and driveway sides of the house and leveling all the bermed-up mulch/dirt that had grown up around the foundation perimeter over the years. They installed a true French drain that aligns perfectly with the roof's drip line. So far, it is P.E.R.F.E.C.T. Great install and clean up. The air is flowing freely! Martin at Nuvo is leading the charge for the next step, which is replacing some of my oak and pine floor boards that were damaged by Harvey. We'll start on that later this spring, giving the crawlspace chance to get bone dry. My experience with Nuvo and (so far) just a single subcontractor, has been everything I hoped for and more. I recommend Nuvo for any project you are contemplating.

Punctual, polite, and professional. We had a great experience from beginning to end. The folks at Nuvo were exceptionally patient working with us for an estimate as we were trying to figure out what to do and then were flexible with changes after we started. There was clear and open communication through the project so we know what to expect and when. They appreciated we had a budget and worked with us to stick with it. The work really changed the appearance of our house for the better and the quality is superior to the initial house construction. Really happy with the experience and will certainly be a repeat client.

Quite simply, this was the best remodeling experience I've ever had AND the only instance (out of a half-dozen major construction projects) where I can wholeheartedly recommend the contractor! Nuvo handled a to-the-studs demo and remodel of my kitchen as well as updates to remainder of ground floor (molding updates, rebuilding of historic wood windows, paint, installation of "new" reclaimed heart pine floors). From start (permitting roadblocks thrown up by the Historic Preservation Office) to finish (the owner physically re-installing my dining room furniture on Dec. 23rd while I shopped!), my project was handled with professionalism, a remarkable attention to detail, and a firm hand on the budget. There was a miscommunication about the wood floors--and Nuvo reworked the floors until I was satisfied, without complaint or hesitation! The work was superb and was a great value. Not only did Nuvo stay under budget but owner David Wennagel did the impossible: My house was built in 1901, and had been the victim of some poorly executed DIY "remuddling, especially when it came to running HVAC ductwork. An engineer by training, Wennagel completely redesigned the HVAC ductwork servicing the kitchen and dining rooms--which had not been contemplated when the job was bid--to eliminate the ugly fur-downs AND he still stayed within the original project budget! For once, a finished remodeling product exceeded my expectations! Thanks, David, Martin and the crew (most notably Victor & Ramon) for a job beautifully done!

A 10 star review if i could give it - i loved working with David, Martin and Greg and their entire team on our complete master bathroom overhaul, foyer painting and front porch reconstruction projects. They're the best to work with because they're nice, reasonable and knowledgable people, they're very communicative, they do quality work, and, probably best of all, they wont think twice about doing things over to get it absolutely perfect. I'm planning to use them again for a full rental property renovation in a year or two and will use them for other projects in the near future.
