Overall, I would recommend Bachman's. However, we did experience some difficulties with the project. It took repeated contact to get things ironed out. They could have handled the back-end much better. This would cause me to hesitate to recommend or use them again. But, in fairness, there were MANY bright spots. The salesman/estimator was punctual, professional, knowledgeable & communicative. Front-end communication was clear (phone/email). Job day, the roofing crew were on-time & extremely efficient. They took great care working around our landscaping. Afterwards, they cleaned up well, including use of rolling magnets to make sure they removed every nail from the yard. During use of a large crane/truck they were very careful not to damage our asphalt driveway. The problems we encountered were two-fold. Firstly, a foreman who was extremely young & inexperienced. He spent job day smoking cigarettes, snacking & talking on his phone. During his final check of the work he missed a piece of trim that had been mangled & was put back up in damaged condition. (It was easily seen, not subtle). We noticed it & asked about it as they were packing up. His solution was to have a crew member attempt to straighten it. By this time it was dusk, which made it hard to see the result. The next morning, we realized it still did not look right. We contacted our salesman. The following day, the young foreman was sent back to remove & replace the damaged trim. About 8 weeks later, we noticed the same piece of trim came loose after a thunderstorm, leaving a large gap behind the siding. I had also noticed several shingles on the garage popped up. Our salesman referred me to the main office as it was a "warranty issue". A rep was sent to view the problem within 24 hours. However, no repair was done at that time because he said frost on the roof prevented him from walking on it. Instead, we were told the SAME foreman would return to AGAIN fix the issue. I hesitantly agreed. A week passed with no contact. After that, I decided to demand someone other than the foreman to solve this lagging problem. We left voicemail at the # the rep had provided, messages at the office, and emails to the account HE HAD GIVEN us. When we finally heard from him, he gave me excuses such as he didn't get the messages, his email was never hooked up, & he was too slammed because the company had been doing a large volume of jobs due to hail in the area. At this point, my patience had worn thin. We had a heated conversation in which I let him know we would NOT continue to wait for, nor accept the work of, the young foreman. The rep begrudgingly came out personally & fixed the problem. It turns out when the young foreman first replaced the damaged trim, he did NOT NAIL IT IN. Overall, the roof is beautiful & I am pleased with the quality. I understand foreman are rough around the edges. And, in my experience, it is not unusual to have hiccups with construction work. But in my opinion, there is definitely some room for improvement here. The result of the poor back end service is that I was left feeling untrustworthy of the company. It's a shame because they have been around for decades and have a good reputation.
