How We Got Started: Years ago, before building a business consumed all of my time, creative woodworking was my primary interest. I gravitated to making wood products that related to kitchen and food preparation needs: monster rolling pins, hand carved utensils, tongs, turned bowls, goblets, steins, etc. In the midst of semi-retirement from my consulting firm, with way too much free time on my hands, my wife bought me a new table saw. That saw re-ignited my passion for woodworking after many years of absence. The new table saw, of course, required a functioning workshop. Thus began the transformation of our garage and became the center for my rather expensive, but relaxing hobby. In the beginning, I made cutting boards using a wide variety of both domestic and exotic hardwoods. The shockingly expensive exotic hardwoods prompted me to begin selling these cutting boards to help defray the cost of the wood. It wasn't long before demand turned my relaxing hobby into a full-time business. After purchasing a wood lathe, I began turning both solid and segmented bowls, bottle stoppers, candle holders and other similar items. Did I say something about too much free time?
