Avoid. Toner Architects did a site survey of our property and prepared "as-is" and construction drawings and preliminary design proposals for a major renovation. There were numerous important inaccuracies in the drawings provided within the scope of the construction proposal. Errors in the site survey (showing the building before construction) included: failing to include the active chimney stack, missing windows, including windows that did not exist, walls and doors shown 4' out of place, door openings reversed, etc. Those errors contributed to delays in the project. There were also numerous issues with their ideas for the remodeling, such as doors that would have hit each other, appliances blocking windows, etc. Throughout the process they were very slow to respond to any communication and provided little feedback or information, beyond explaining that some of our initial ideas were not up to building code. Based on the poor communication and inaccuracies, we chose not to use Toner for the interior design portion of our project. They did reduce their fee for the design portion of the contract, leaving us with a significant expense and no design deliverable, but letting us out of the contract.

My husband and I hired Toner Architects to design plans needed for a full renovation and obtaining city approval to combine two separate South Philly row homes into one. From our first meeting with Ian, we were confident that we were in the right hands and felt a sense of ease. Ian was always a phone call away to answer all of our questions, and he made us a priority when we requested a meeting.
