Our studio is founded on the simple desire to produce good work, test creative ideas, and build buildings we are proud of. Each project, regardless of programme, budget, or scope, is approached as an opportunity to achieve these ends while delivering outstanding results to our clients. Each project is a culmination of intensive study, from concept and aesthetics to functionality and building performance. We use location as a catalyst to explore regional identity and vernacular technique to create projects that embrace their context. Concurrently, environmentally conscious strategies and the latest in technological advancements are employed to create buildings that respond naturally to their site. As a studio, our design process is highly participatory, both internally and with like-minded disciplines. Having grown to encompass a team of design professionals with varied skillsets, we understand the value of diverse perspectives and strive to include them throughout our projects to bring out the best in both our work and staff.Working in a studio environment, we endeavour to fundamentally integrate architecture with performance, sustainability, and aesthetics. Starting with internal sketches, diagrams, and intensive 3d explorations, we also recognize the diverse external input required to create successful projects and collaborate with other disciplines (landscape, interior, structural, mechanical, and contractor) to push the project into realization. Working both locally and internationally, these relationships are fundamental to ensure that the high level of detail and execution JCI strives for in all projects is consistently met here and abroad. This collaborative approach facilitates the clear lines of communication crucial for effective decision making, and acknowledges that successful projects stem from successful teams.

It has been a thoroughly rewarding experience working with Studio JCI. My husband and I met Sue Jean, Jaegap and Sudipto over two years ago to discuss our plans to renovate an existing Triplex in mid-town Toronto. It was our first major renovation project so we were extremely apprehensive. Any concerns, however, regarding their ability to deliver designs that met our strict functional and design requirements were put to rest when we saw the initial drawings - our expectations were exceeded because suddenly our 'vision' was on paper! I couldn't wait to move forward and make the design a reality. As with any renovation project, budget was a concern. Studio JCI ensured that the materials used for the house optimized design and function while keeping our budget in mind. For instance, we reused the old existing brick and combined it with different materials for interest based on Sue Jean's recommendation. The results were nothing short of fantastic - although it was clearly a modern house, because of the mix of materials along with the existing brick, the house felt warm and inviting and felt like it still belonged among the existing houses on the street. To this day, we still get local pedestrians stopping by in front of the house and letting us know how much they love the design! As for the interior spaces, Studio JCI worked very collaboratively with the interior designer and with us. They took our requirements and made valuable suggestions that we didn't know we needed, many of which we implemented without any ounce of regret. Our experience Studio JCI throughout the building process was no different. They were equally attentive, responsive and were quick to react to any changes or revisions required to resolve any onsite issues that typically come with building a home. Their knowledge, experience and expertise allowed them to be agile and to effectively work with the contractor to deliver the project on time and on budget. It has been nearly 10 months since we've moved in and we are so happy with our home. We are blessed to wake up every day in a beautiful home and Studio JCI played a huge part in making our dream a reality. Thank you, Studio JCI!
