Street Monkey Architects

Street Monkey Architects was founded in 2014 by Cage Copher and specialises in the design of low-energy housing with prefabricated modules. In addition to modular prefabrication, we have experience internationally in set design, interior design, building design and urban planning. In 2010, Cage completed a Doctorate of Architecture from the University of Hawaii. The last two years of this Doctorate program were spent in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. It was in this collaboration with KTH that Cage began exploring the process of designing prefabricated modular passive buildings. During this time Cage met Ingrid Westman and from this collaboration grew two companies: Friendly Building – to build modular passive buildings and Street Monkey Architects – to design them. After completing his degree in 2010 and before starting SMA, Cage worked for Ahlqvist and Almqvist Arkitekter on housing projects in Sweden and in Poland and after that he spent two years with Strategisk Arkitektur as part of their urban planning team with Magnus Lundström and Jan Ytterborn. In addition to the University of Hawaii, Cage studied urban design at DIS in Copenhagen and has a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Before moving to Hawaii and later Sweden, Cage worked as a set decorator and interior designer in San Fransisco. In early 2015, Matt Ininns joined the Street Monkey team. Matt studied architecture at California Polytechnic University and after internships in Paris and Florence, he landed in Stockholm to become SMA’s first employee. We are really happy to have him and soon he will be speaking Swedish!
